Over the last few decades, the Wireless Systems group at Qualcomm has been instrumental in driving the mobile communication revolution which has touched every aspect of our modern life. The Wireless Research and Development (WRD) team in Bengaluru is working to advance the state of the art in the Cellular industry by developing novel technology enhancements for inclusion in the next generation 3GPP/O-RAN standards and products. You now have an opportunity of joining this team.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about system design and can work closely with Systems, Software, and Product teams to deliver end to end solutions. Primary areas of contribution would be
forward looking wireless system design, performance evaluation, IP and standardization activities,
specifically focusing on 5G advanced and 6G features, O-RAN, Digital Twin designs.
The role requires ability to conceptualize new features/interfaces/functional blocks/ algorithms that will go into cellular chipsets and standards, propose implementation details, evaluate and simulate performance benefits, and analyze and diagnose system level issues, collaborate across functional teams to meet and exceed system-level requirements and standards. Engage with product teams to provide technical overviews, gather the product perspective and drive Qualcomm proposals for standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master™s degree in engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related fields.
- 4+ years of Systems Engineering, or software development, or related work experience.
- Experience with wireless standards (i.e. 3G/4G/5G/Wi-Fi), especially in the areas of RAN architecture, protocols and interfaces.
- Experience in system/feature design for wireless and other IoT technologies.
- 5+ years of experience with Programming Language such as C/C++, Python and/or MATLAB.

Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Electrical, Communication or Computer Engineering
- Academic project experience or 4+ year™s industry experience in at least one or more of the following areas:Applied mathematics, machine learning or Bayesian inference, architecture/systems engineering, information theory, probability and random processes.
- Strong hands-on expertise in 4
G/5G Upper Layers protocols (3GPP IMS, NAS, RRC, and MAC/RLC/PDCP, S1/X2/NG/Xn, N1/N2/N3, IP, UDP, TCP, HTTP, routing, etc.).
- Experience in
standards work for 3GPP TSG SA WG2(SA2), RAN WG2(RAN2), RAN WG3(RAN3).
- Understanding of
O-RAN architecture and interfaces (SMO, RIC, O1/A1/E1/E2/F1, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong hands-on in Data structures and algorithms.
- Good understanding of design patterns and design philosophies.
- Passion for learning and intellectual curiosity.
- Experience in ideation leading to patent filing.
- Experience with key machine learning tools/libraries, neural networks architectures and building models will be a plus.
