Job Context & Major Challenges

Alupuram Works produces and sells over 12000 TPA of Aluminium extrusions.

The entire company property includes, two Extrusion presses with it its down stream processing equipments, Casting plant with furnaces and other facilities, other support services, three residential colonies which have 180 quarters and 2 Bungalows and two Guest Houses with total land area of around 128 acres. This factory located in a semi-urban area and value of the land and other assets comes around Rs.600 Crores. There is potential for theft and encroachment of land in case of any security lapse.

In Kerala the labour laws are very stringent and company should ensure to provide all welfare facilities to its employees. Presently there are 430 permanent employees and 85 Contractors workmen working inside the factory. Liaise with Labour department and other Governmental departments are very essential to be in good relations. Employee relations in an environment of strong trade unionism with political back up need more attention.

Company initiates CSR activities in the villages surrounding the plant, which have a population of 35000, and total area will be 12 sq. kilometers. Major CSR activities include support to Education, Woman empowerment for Sustainable development and Infrastructure facilities and Health care programmes. Liaise with Local bodies and NGOs are essential for mobilizing funds from various Govt. schemes and implementing these activities effectively.

To gather and convey important and confidential information to top management and convey communications to employees and their unions and stakeholders are very essential to foster harmonious and effective relationship. Trade unions are very aggressive and liaise with unions need special attention to facilitate the negotiation and implementation of any expansion project proposals.

Contractors workmen carry out company insourced and outsourced jobs. A good number of them are migrant laborers from different parts of the country and the background of those workmen is unknown. In the context of terrorist attacks at various places, more vigilance is required and hence the whereabouts of these workmen are checked to prevent any untoward incidents.

There are two Guesthouses comprising 8 rooms. V VIPs like MD visits the plant and hence facilitating the stay with hospitality are highly desirable. The GH rooms are fully booked round the year.

Major Challenges

Implement and administer all Welfare activities as per Factories Act without any complaints.

Identify, plan, implement and monitor CSR projects as per Corporate Policy in budgeted cost in neighbouring villages which have a population of 35000, liase with Government and Non Governmental organisation for mobilizing funds under various schemes proposed by Central & state Governments. (Viz. Indira Awas Yojana, Jaldhara Project, Health Insurance, Rural employment schemes and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan etc.

Coordinate Security and vigilance of Company property comprises of 128 acres of land and assets worth Rs.600 crores with no theft or encroachment.

Facilitate effective communication facilities at Alupuram Works to foster harmonious relationship with employees and stake holders

Monitor and regulate the engagement of Contractors Workmen to carried out the outsourced and insourced jobs

Maintain Guest houses to the utmost satisfaction of guests

To work as Alupuram Correspondent to all corporate journals including Full Circle

Deploy security personnel in company and colonies

Manage outsourced security activity as and when organized

Provide security support to Project team during implementation period
