What you will do
- Participate in projects requiring the recommendation of welding consumables, parameters, or base metals to optimize metallurgical performance for challenging applications.
- Engage with contractor to plan, qualify and implement a matrix of welding procedures for a complex project Develops welder training and qualification programs to ensure required quality is achieved.
- Develop and implement welding specifications for non-routine applications including the appropriate QA/QC requirements.
- Perform root cause analysis of welding application problem or weld failure and recommend solutions that address the issue.
- Work with third party inspectors responsible for monitoring welding in a shop or at a construction site to ensure quality objectives were met.
- Participate in the application of in-service welding for the repair of equipment or a hot tapping application.
- Interpret inspection data and determined remedial action to limit flaw occurrence.
- Write functional welding specifications for challenging applications.
- Participate in a joint industry project or code committee whereby the objectives were aimed at welding fabrication technology.
- Draft or revise ExxonMobil Global Practices (GPs) for welding and weld inspection.
- Review Welding Procedure Specification and Welding Procedure Qualification Records (WPS/PQR) for compliance to Industry and Company standards.
- Review welding procedure and consumable selection to determine suitability for common applications and conformance with GPs and industry codes and standards.
- Provide welding engineering expertise to assist in performing or directing trials to establish quality welds with optimum productivity that meets a specific application requirement.
- Review results from (or work with) a test lab investigating the metallurgy of a weld. Preferably the data is reviewed for conformance to a standard or specification.
- Examine welds rejected from procedure qualification or production testing due to metallurgical problems.
- Conduct routine laboratory investigations involving the study of weld defects.
