About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Web & Video Player Engineer to join our remote team. This role is ideal for professionals with extensive experience in JavaScript and web video playback technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance video streaming experiences across web and Connected TV platforms such as Chromecast, Xbox, Samsung Tizen, LG, Vizio, and cable boxes. You will play a critical role in owning the entire playback pipeline, troubleshooting complex streaming issues, and enhancing user experience through performance optimization. Collaboration with product managers, UX designers, and other engineering teams will be vital to delivering reliable, high-quality video content to a global audience.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 7 years of web development experience with a deep specialization in JavaScript and web video playback. Proven expertise in building and maintaining video players and live streaming components for both web and Connected TV platforms is essential. Hands-on experience with streaming frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka is required, including skills in tuning playback performance and troubleshooting live streaming challenges. Candidates should have a solid understanding of video streaming protocols, live playback concepts like latency, live edge, and drift, as well as ABR (Adaptive Bitrate) algorithms and DRM (Digital Rights Management) integration. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are necessary to articulate technical specifications and collaborate effectively in a remote environment. The ability to work independently in a fast-paced, distributed team setting is also critical.

Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and implement advanced video player features across multiple platforms, including web and Connected TV devices.
• Develop and optimize video player components utilizing frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka, ensuring smooth playback and minimal buffering.
• Troubleshoot and resolve playback issues related to rebuffering, latency, startup time, and other live streaming-specific challenges.
• Analyze player performance metrics and QoE (Quality of Experience) data to identify issues and implement improvements to enhance playback quality.
• Contribute to player development using React Native for CTV and multi-device environments, ensuring consistency and performance across platforms.
• Create and maintain automated tests, including unit and end-to-end testing, to guarantee playback reliability.
• Integrate with RESTful APIs and backend services to support seamless playback experiences.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, following agile methodologies for iterative development.
• Provide comprehensive technical documentation and specifications for playback features and components.
