Job Description
Role Description This is a full-time remote Volunteer role supporting the editorial and publication processes of IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering. The volunteer will assist with screening and organizing manuscript submissions, coordinating communication between authors, reviewers, and editorial staff, and tracking deadlines to help maintain timely publication workflows. Day-to-day tasks may include document formatting checks, preliminary quality assessments, updating databases or tracking systems, and supporting the preparation of reports or summaries of editorial activity. The role may also involve helping with outreach to the biomedical engineering community, identifying emerging research areas, and contributing to the continuous improvement of editorial guidelines and processes. All responsibilities are performed collaboratively with the editorial team in a virtual environment.
Qualifications
- Background or strong interest in biomedical engineering, medical technology, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
- Experience with academic or technical writing, editing, and document review, including careful attention to clarity, structure, and accuracy.
- Ability to understand and summarize scientific and engineering content, with solid analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, including tracking multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and maintaining detailed records.
- Comfort with remote collaboration tools, basic office software, and online manuscript management or database systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English, with a professional and respectful approach to interaction with authors and reviewers.
- Commitment to ethical standards in research and publication, including fairness, confidentiality, and integrity in handling manuscripts.
- Relevant academic progress or degree (e.g., BS, MS, or PhD in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or related field) is beneficial but not strictly required.
