VMware L2 Engineer – Private Cloud (Onsite – Dark Site)

Location:

Onsite (Customer Location – Dark Site Environment)

Experience:

3–6 Years

Job Summary:

We are looking for a proactive VMware L2 engineer with hands-on experience across the end-to-end VMware stack, including portal (vRA), virtualization (vSphere), and supporting components. The role involves day-to-day operations, incident handling, and L2 troubleshooting in a self-managed dark site setup without VMware OEM support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide L2 support for VMware private cloud environment.

• Handle incident management, service requests, and basic problem management.

• Monitor and manage:

• VM provisioning and decommissioning

• Resource utilization (CPU, Memory, Storage)

• Perform initial troubleshooting across:

• Portal (vRA) provisioning issues

• vCenter alerts and alarms

• ESXi host-level issues (basic level)

• Support user requests from cloud portal/catalog.

• Escalate complex issues to L3 with proper diagnostics and logs.

• Perform routine operational tasks:

• Health checks

• Snapshots, cloning, backups coordination

• Patch coordination (as per L3 guidance)

• Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and documentation.

• Assist in capacity tracking and reporting.

Required Skills:

• Hands-on experience in:

• VMware vSphere (vCenter, ESXi)

• VMware vRealize Automation (vRA portal usage & basic troubleshooting)

• Understanding of:

• VM lifecycle management

• Basic virtualization concepts

• Infrastructure monitoring

• Basic knowledge of:

• Networking (IP, VLAN, DNS)

• Storage concepts (Datastores, SAN/NAS)

• Familiarity with:

• Incident & change management processes

• Good troubleshooting and coordination skills.

Good to Have:

• Exposure to:

• VMware NSX (basic awareness)

• VMware NSX Advanced Load Balancer (basic awareness)

• Experience in secure / air-gapped (dark site) environments.

• Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell/Python).

• VMware certification (VCP – preferred but not mandatory).

Key Expectations:

• Strong operational discipline and ownership.

• Ability to follow SOPs and escalate effectively.

• Comfortable working in onsite, restricted environments.

• Good communication skills for end-user interaction.
