Job Summary
We are seeking a talented and experienced Technical Team Leader to lead our team in delivering managed services to our customers level 2-3 support 24*7 on Compute (VMware). The ideal candidate will have a good background in people management and be well-versed in the technologies utilized by our team. The HCI Compute Technical team lead will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the team, ensuring timely delivery of services, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
Main Responsibilities Overview
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of Compute Analysts/Admins specializing in VMware, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Define clear individual and team objectives, aligning with overall service delivery and strategic goals.
- Regularly assess team performance against defined KPIs (e.g., incident SLAs, project milestones) and provide constructive feedback for professional development.
- Ensure adherence to organizational policies, ethical standards, and promote a culture of accountability within the team.
- Manage team schedules, leave requests, and ensure adequate staffing to meet operational demands.
- Contribute to the recruitment and onboarding of new team members, ensuring a smooth integration into the team culture.
- Facilitate regular team meetings and individual meetings for updates, knowledge sharing, and problem-solving.
- Ensure team alignment and understanding of strategic goals and new service initiatives.
- Collaborate with the HCI Delivery Manager and HCI Practice Lead in defining support strategies and aligning VMware Compute support activities with broader infrastructure and business priorities.
- Oversee team capacity planning and resource allocation, ensuring a balanced distribution of workload while maintaining responsiveness to critical projects and support activities.
- Ensure the team delivers high-quality VMware services, meeting or exceeding agreed-upon service levels (SLAs).
- Analyze performance metrics and generate reports for management.
- Identify the training and development needs of individual team members and the team as a whole, aligning with current skill gaps and future technology trends.
- Facilitate access to relevant learning resources, certifications, and professional development programs.
- Monitor the effectiveness of training initiatives and ensure continuous skill enhancement within the team.
- Encourage knowledge sharing and best practice adoption within the team.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with Technical Service Coordinators, Infrastructure Delivery Managers, and cross-functional teams to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
- Act as a point of escalation for team-related administrative matters.
Operational Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of VMware vSphere/ESXi, Nutanix AHV, and Microsoft Hyper‑V environments.
- Design, deploy, and optimize compute and virtualization architectures across VMware, Nutanix, and Hyper‑V platforms.
- Manage lifecycle activities including hypervisor upgrades, patching, firmware updates, and hardware refresh planning.
- Troubleshoot complex issues involving hypervisors, virtual machines, storage integrations, and virtual networking.
- Ensure high availability and resilience using technologies such as VMware HA/DRS, Nutanix Acropolis/Leap, and Hyper‑V Failover Clustering.
- Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and resource optimization across all compute clusters.
- Implement and maintain security hardening standards for ESXi hosts, Nutanix nodes, and Hyper‑V hosts.
- Coordinate vulnerability remediation and compliance activities across compute platforms.
- Develop automation scripts and workflows using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Nutanix APIs, or similar tools.
- Integrate and maintain monitoring and alerting solutions such as vROps, Nutanix Prism Central, and SCOM.
- Support hybrid cloud initiatives including VMware Cloud, Nutanix NC2, and Hyper‑V/Azure‑based integrations.
- Collaborate with network, storage, security, and application teams to support infrastructure and business requirements.
- Lead root‑cause analysis for major incidents and drive long‑term corrective actions.
- Review and approve technical designs, configurations, and operational documentation.
- Participate in budgeting, vendor management, and procurement for compute and virtualization technologies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability, automation, and operational efficiency.
Job Requirements
- Overall 9+ years of experience with at least 4+ years of experience in people management, preferably in a technical or infrastructure-focused environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with both a team‑oriented and customer‑centric approach.
- Strong knowledge and hands‑on experience with Infrastructure Services, including VMware administration (vSphere/ESXi, vCenter, vSAN).
- Solid working experience with Nutanix AHV and Prism for cluster management, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Practical expertise in Microsoft Hyper‑V administration, including Failover Clustering and virtual machine lifecycle management.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a technical team, including goal setting, coaching, and performance management.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, drive results, and operate effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Other Requirements
English Business Fluent.
Global travel may be required.
Additional language is an asset.
Certification Requirements
Familiarity with ITIL v3 or 4 would be advantageous. Other technical certifications in VMware are a plus.
Exposure to hybrid cloud environments (e.g., VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure Stack)
