Job Description

Position: VMware Administrator

Ext: 5-8 years

Location: Hyderabad and pune

Mode: Hybrid

NP: Immediate joiners prefered

Position Summary

The Senior VMware Administrator is responsible for designing, implementing,

managing, and optimizing enterprise virtualization environments based on VMware

technologies. This role ensures high availability, performance, capacity planning, and

security of the virtualized infrastructure that hosts critical business applications. The

administrator will also drive automation initiatives and support disaster recovery

strategies across the datacenter.

Key Responsibilities

1. VMware Infrastructure Management

Manage and administer VMware vSphere/ESXi clusters, vCenter, and associated

components.

Perform installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle

management of VMware infrastructure.

Monitor performance, optimize resource utilization, and ensure high availability

across virtual workloads.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to VM performance, host resource

usage, vCenter alarms, storage connectivity, and networking.

2. Design & Architecture

Participate in designing scalable, resilient virtualization architectures.

Lead capacity planning, forecasting, and growth modeling of compute clusters.

Provide design inputs for server, storage, and network components in virtualized

environments.

Evaluate and implement new VMware features (vSAN, NSX, vRealize, Tanzu,

etc.).

3. Security & Compliance

Implement security baselines, hardening guides, and role-based access controls

(RBAC).

Manage patching, firmware, and vulnerability remediation for hosts and

appliances.

Ensure compliance with internal security policies and external audit

requirements.

4. Automation & Optimization

Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerCLI, PowerShell, or

Python.

Use vRealize Operations (vROps) or similar tools for monitoring, reporting, and

right-sizing.

Identify and implement improvements to reduce operational overhead and

increase reliability.

5. Backup, DR & Business Continuity

Manage VM backup strategies using tools like Veeam, Commvault, or

NetBackup.

Support disaster recovery planning, replication, failover testing, and

documentation.

Ensure consistent backup policies and recovery readiness.

6. Documentation & Collaboration

Maintain up-to-date documentation on architecture, configurations, SOPs, and

runbooks.

Work closely with Windows/Linux administrators, network teams, and storage

teams.

Provide L3 support for escalated incidents and mentor junior engineers.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related

discipline.

58+ years of hands-on experience managing enterprise VMware environments.

Expertise in VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, VMFS/NFS datastores, and

HA/DRS clusters.

Strong working knowledge of storage (SAN/NAS), networking (VLANs, vDS), and

server hardware.

Experience with VMware vSAN, NSX-T, vRealize Suite (vROps, vRA) preferred.

Strong scripting skills using PowerCLI/PowerShell (mandatory).

Hands-on experience in backup and replication technologies.

Strong troubleshooting skills and deep understanding of virtualization concepts.

Certifications such as VCP, VCAP, or equivalent are highly preferred.

Excellent communication and documentation abilities.

Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.

Preferred Experience

Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid cloud integrations.

Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change).
