Business Function

RMG works closely with our business partners to manage the bank's risk exposure by balancing its objective to maximise returns against an acceptable risk profile. We partner with origination teams to provide financing, investments, and hedging opportunities to our customers. To manage risk effectively and run a successful business, we invest significantly in our people and infrastructure.

Roles & Responsibilities

As a Zonal Head Mortgage Policy and Underwriting, you will be instrumental in shaping and executing the credit strategy for the portfolio. Your responsibilities will encompass policy development, portfolio management, operational efficiency (process and automation), compliance, and team leadership.

1. Credit Policy & Portfolio Management:

  • Policy Enhancement: Propose and implement improvements to credit policies and procedures, ensuring comprehensive documentation, communication, and adherence to mitigate risks and deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Portfolio Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of the existing LAP portfolio to identify trends, assess risk, and recommend strategic changes that contribute to business growth and development. Achieve agreed NCL/Delinquency targets.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee the implementation of credit policies to maintain a high-quality retail portfolio, consistently meeting target Turnaround Times (TATs).
  • Risk Mitigation: Ensure sensible credit norms are applied, leading to a high-quality and resilient portfolio
  • Scorecard and BRE: Sound understanding of scorecard development, business rule engine and automation is prerequisite

2. Operational Excellence & Compliance:

  • Process Optimization: Leverage automation and digitalization tools to enhance credit process efficiency and productivity.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure successful adoption and strict adherence to internal compliance guidelines and regulatory frameworks across all business operations.
  • Audit Coordination: Act as a primary liaison with internal and regulatory audit teams, addressing their requirements and concerns effectively.
  • Vendor Management: Monitor and maintain vendor quality and TATs as per established targets.

3. Credit Assessment & Decision Making:

  • Assessment & Approval: Lead the credit assessment process for medium to large ticket Loan Against Property proposals, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and internal policies.
  • Delegation & Escalation: Exercise discretionary authority for credit proposal approvals and escalate proposals requiring higher authorization to the appropriate committees, adhering strictly to the bank's credit policy.
  • Strategic Credit Function: Establish and manage the national credit function based on the principle of decentralized assessment and centralized decision-making.
  • Viability Assessment: Assess the viability of credit lending proposals from both credit and risk perspectives, utilizing institutionalized processes and dynamic market information across multiple branch locations.
  • Decision Flow: Guide proposals from initial assessment to approval or rejection, ensuring efficient TATs for validation.

4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collections Partnership: Collaborate with the Collections team to reduce net credit loss and delinquency metrics. This involves identifying trends in delinquent customers and communicating insights for corrective actions, including new sourcing strategies.
  • Inter-departmental Coordination: Coordinate effectively with other support functions to ensure operational effectiveness and seamless business flow.
  • Reporting: Monitor and share Management Information Systems (MIS) reports with the Function Head and local credit/business teams to facilitate better business understanding and decision-making.

5. Team Leadership & Development:

  • Organizational Structure: Maintain an optimal departmental organizational structure to achieve all goals and objectives, including developing a robust succession plan.
  • Talent Management: Recruit, manage, train, upskill, motivate, and retain a high-performing credit team.
  • Performance Measurement: Define and track department performance using appropriate metrics.
  • Ongoing Training: Provide continuous training and development opportunities for the credit team.
  • Customer-Centric Culture: Champion a customer first culture, driving the team to uphold high servicing norms to ensure absolute customer delight.
  • Team Synergy: Foster synergy and collaboration among team members.
  • Career Development: Guide and train team members (Pod members) to progress in their career paths.

Managerial & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor key parameters such as productivity, hiring quality, and attrition rates, implementing necessary improvements proactively.
  • Talent Acquisition: Attract and retain top-tier talent for critical roles within the reporting structure.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Drive cooperation with credit, operations, and business teams to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the business.
  • Industry and Regulatory knowledge: Sound knowledge of the Indian market especially Mortgages (both Home Loan and Loan Against property) in terms of risks associated with this product. Good understanding of RBI Regulations/Guidelines that govern credit dispensation, including the Loan Grading, Provisioning and Asset Classification regulations.
