To strengthen our APAC Underwriting team, we are seeking a Non-Life Underwriter, based in our GIFT branch.

With the support of your Team Leader and colleagues, your mission is to effectively manage over time the relationships with our non-life clients in India, as well as to source and underwrite profitable non-life treaty business including P&C and Agriculture lines. This is an exciting opportunity as it allows you to have exposure to and gain knowledge of different markets. Besides the Indian market, you will be working on business opportunities in the wider APAC region.

This position is based in GIFT City. Applicants should either be locally based or open to relocating with a valid work visa.

The role

• Handle results-oriented underwriting by building-up, developing and monitoring a technically sound and profitable portfolio, this includes pricing in coordination with Pricing Actuaries and ensuring that all underwriting actions and decisions are properly documented.
• Acquire and maintain new profitable business in the allocated markets.
• Maintain and develop client relationships within your markets, consult and provide solutions for them as well as assist in organizing workshops.
• Interact effectively with other Business Units and departments such as Accounting, Claims, Wording, as well as the CAT Modeling team to ensure timely CAT pricing.
• Handle administrative tasks, such as reviewing contractual documents and endorsement requests, data input, maintain data quality of portfolio, etc
• Provide market information to our internal peers.
• Oversee underwriting activities, ensuring alignment with group risk appetite and underwriting guidelines.
• Drive profitable growth through disciplined underwriting and client engagement.
• Monitor market trends and competitor activity to identify new opportunities.
• Collaborate with regional and global teams to align business objectives and share best practices.

Your profile

• Degree in a related field
• Minimum five years of experience in the reinsurance industry, with a strong focus on non-life lines.
• Strong understanding of the Indian (re)insurance market and regulatory environment.
• In-depth understanding of primary coverage issues and rates, strong technical and analytical mindset.
• In-depth understanding of our clients business, strategy, underwriting approach and the related exposures which allow you to develop reinsurance solutions and structures that serve their needs, which may include underwriting, underwriting analysis, broking, research / planning
• Excellent understanding of various actuarial methodologies and ability to discuss technical pricing concepts
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently and drive initiatives.
• Strategic thinker with hands-on execution capability.
• High integrity and commitment to compliance and governance.
• Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to interact and communicate across all levels.
• Ability to negotiate and create solutions, as well as develop strong broker and client relationships
• Foster a collaborative and performance driven culture aligned with the company's values.
• Collaborate with regional and global teams to align business objectives and share best practices.
