Job Description

We are seeking an Underground Cable Designer with a background in electrical or civil engineering to join our Transmission & Distribution team. The ideal candidate will have 3-4 years of experience with a Diploma or 6-8 years with an ITI, specializing in underground powerline projects. This role requires a proficient and innovative designer who can manage multiple projects, mentor junior staff, and ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Drafting: Prepare designs and drawings for underground powerline projects using software such as Civil 3D, MicroStation, and ArcGIS. You will also perform QA/QC reviews of pulling calculations, alignments, and design standards.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Coordinate and oversee the workload of lower-level drafting personnel. You will be responsible for their mentorship and technical development, ensuring all project deliverables are of high quality and submitted on time.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects, deadlines, and deliverables in parallel. You must have a proven track record of finding solutions to complex problems and the ability to prioritize work effectively.
  • Innovation & Compliance: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field and identify optimal methods to perform design tasks. You'll ensure all designs comply with relevant codes of practice, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: A Diploma in Electrical/Civil with 3-4 years of experience or an ITI in Electrical/Civil with 6-8 years of experience. Prior experience in underground transmission or distribution is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Civil 3D or MicroStation for creating plan profile drawings is essential. Knowledge of underground powerline construction methods and concepts related to easements, right-of-way, and permitting is a plus.
  • Personal Attributes: Strong analytical capability and the ability to devise new approaches to problems. You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be flexible, and willing to travel as needed to meet project requirements. Experience leading a team is a must.
