Ciena drives the world's connectivity, and this role contributes directly to building the software that makes modern networks adaptive, scalable, and highly performant. As part of the team developing Ciena's nextgeneration network design and engineering applications, this position influences how customers plan Optical Transport Network (OTN), Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), and packetbased infrastructures across longhaul, regional, and metro networks. This opportunity offers meaningful impact, handson learning, and collaboration with experienced engineers building software for Ciena's MCP (Management Control and Planning) and OnePlanner platforms.
How You Will Make An Impact
- Perform analysis, design, and implementation activities that validate and optimize DWDM, OTN, and packetbased network configurations
- Apply modern UI design principles to build responsive, scalable features in a microserviceoriented environment
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Product Line Managers, and verification teams to refine requirements and deliver highquality features
- Translate functional requirements into technical tasks, including estimation, implementation, unit testing, and documentation
- Debug and resolve issues across the UI stack to maintain performance, reliability, and usability
- Participate actively in Agile Scrum ceremonies and maintain user stories and acceptance criteria in Jira
- Support integration and feature verification to ensure seamless endtoend product quality
The Must Haves
- 2+ years of handson experience in endtoend software development (analysis, design, implementation, testing, and support)
- Strong proficiency in React.js, HTML5, CSS, and SASS/SCSS
- Advanced JavaScript knowledge, including ES6 / ES7 and objectoriented JavaScript
- Experience with unit testing frameworks such as Jest and React Testing Library
- Working knowledge of Git for version control
- Strong problemsolving skills, aptitude for learning, and a positive, collaborative mindset
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Nice To Haves
- Experience with endtoend automation tools such as Playwright
- Familiarity with modern build tools (e.g., Webpack, Babel, Vite, esbuild, tsdown)
- Exposure to thirdparty JavaScript libraries such as D3
- Understanding of WebSockets, authentication approaches, and general web security principles
- Experience working with Docker containers, Linux environments, or microservices
- Knowledge of REST APIs, SOAPbased services, or client/server architectures
- Background in network management systems (EMS/NMS) or network planning software
