Job Description

Job Title:

UAV Software Engineer.

Department:

Autonomous - UAV

Location:

Vapi, Gujarat.

Reports To:

Manager / Senior Manager – Robotics & Autonomous Systems

Job Purpose:

To design, develop, and optimize autopilot software, embedded systems, and communication frameworks for UAV platforms, ensuring reliable flight performance, system stability, and seamless integration of sensors and control systems for autonomous operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Autopilot Development & Flight Control

• Develop and enhance flight control software based on architectures similar to ArduPilot or PX4

• Implement and optimize control algorithms (PID tuning, filtering) for stable and efficient flight

• Work on navigation, waypoint control, failsafe mechanisms, and mission planning logic

• Perform flight testing, tuning, and performance validation

2. Embedded Systems & Firmware Development

• Develop firmware for ARM Cortex / STM32-based flight controllers

• Interface and integrate sensors such as IMU, GPS, barometer, LiDAR, and cameras

• Work with low-level communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN)

• Optimize system performance for real-time constraints and low latency

3. Communication Protocols & Integration

• Implement and debug UAV communication using MAVLink

• Develop companion computer applications using Python (Jetson / Raspberry Pi)

• Work with tools such as MAVProxy, Mission Planner, and QGroundControl

• Ensure reliable telemetry, command, and data exchange between UAV and ground station

4. Simulation, Testing & Debugging

• Perform SITL/HITL simulations using Gazebo / AirSim / JSBSim

• Analyze flight logs using tools like MAVExplorer and log viewers

• Identify and resolve system issues related to flight stability, sensor fusion, and communication

• Conduct regression testing and validation for firmware releases

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate with electronics, mechanical, and system engineering teams for UAV integration

• Work closely with R&D teams for feature development and system optimization

• Support field teams during deployment, testing, and troubleshooting

• Contribute to system architecture and design reviews

6. Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain documentation for firmware, communication protocols, and testing procedures

• Prepare technical reports, validation documents, and release notes

• Ensure adherence to internal engineering standards and safety practices

• Support continuous improvement through structured documentation and knowledge sharing

Qualifications and Experience:

• B.E. / B.Tech / M.Tech in:

  • Electronics / Embedded Systems
  • Robotics / Mechatronics
  • Computer Science

• 3–8 years of experience in:

  • UAV / drone software development
  • Embedded systems and autopilot firmware
  • Robotics or autonomous systems

• Hands-on experience with:

  • ArduPilot / PX4
  • MAVLink

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong programming skills in C++ (mandatory) and Python

• Solid understanding of control systems (PID, filtering, flight dynamics)

• Experience with embedded systems (STM32 / ARM Cortex)

• Familiarity with Linux-based development environments

• Knowledge of ROS / ROS2 and MAVROS (preferred)

• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work in real-time and safety-critical systems

• Stability and performance of flight control algorithms

• Successful implementation of autopilot features and enhancements

• Reduction in flight failures and system errors

• Efficiency in debugging and issue resolution

• Quality of simulation, testing, and validation outputs
