Job Description – Shift Maintenance Technician (Extrusion, Fabrication & Utilities)

Department: Maintenance

Location: PVC Extrusion, Fabrication & Swiss Spacer Plant

Shift: 3-Shift Rotational

Qualification: Diploma in Electrical / Instrumentation / Mechatronics

Experience: Minimum 4 years in industrial maintenance – preferable automation industries

  • 1. Role Overview

The Shift Maintenance Technician will be responsible for attending breakdowns, executing daily checks, supporting production teams, and maintaining uninterrupted operation of all plant machinery across Extrusion Lines, Fabrication Machines, Swiss Spacer Line, and Utility Systems. The role requires strong hands-on skills in electrical maintenance, PLC basic troubleshooting, pneumatics, instrumentation, and general mechanical fitting.

  • 2. Key Responsibilities
  • Breakdown & Reactive Maintenance
  • Attend breakdowns across all machines: Extrusion lines, Graf welders, Schirmer cutting line, beading machine, packing machine, lamination line, mixing plant, regrinding machine, cranes, compressor, chiller, and process water systems.
  • Identify root cause and restore machine operation with minimal downtime.
  • Support automation-related faults: sensors, limits, drives, PLC input/output faults, panel issues.
  • Preventive & Daily Maintenance
  • Perform CLIT activities, lubrication work, and basic preventive maintenance.
  • Execute daily utility checks (compressor, cooling towers, chiller, pumps).
  • Conduct daily machine inspection, tightenings, filter checks, safety device checks.
  • Electrical & Automation Responsibilities
  • Hands-on maintenance of LT distribution, ACBs, MCC panels, contactors, overloads, relays, power supplies, control wiring.
  • Basic PLC troubleshooting (Siemens/Beckhoff/Delta preferred).
  • Knowledge of drives, sensors, proximity switches, encoders, pneumatic solenoids.
  • Replace/align sensors and troubleshoot interlock faults.
  • Pneumatic, Hydraulic & Mechanical Work
  • Diagnose and repair pneumatic failures: FRLs, cylinders, solenoid valves, fittings.
  • Carry out basic hydraulic troubleshooting for presses and power packs.
  • Minor mechanical fitting, belt tensioning, chain tightening, alignment corrections.
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Fill shift log sheets accurately.
  • Update breakdown records, spares used, and abnormalities noticed.
  • Communicate handover to next shift technician clearly.
  • Raise spare requirement to Engineer / HOD on time.
  • Coordination & Communication
  • Work closely with the production team for machine-related issues.
  • Collaborate with OEM technicians when required during service visits.
  • Provide clear updates to the engineer/HOD on breakdowns and pending issues.
  • Support cross-functional teams during changeovers or trials.
  • WCM / TPM / 5S / IMS
  • Maintain 5S in maintenance zones and machine areas.
  • Follow TPM pillars—Autonomous Maintenance support, CLIT, tagging abnormalities.
  • Support condition monitoring initiatives (noise, vibration, temperature checks).
  • Follow IMS procedures related to safety, quality, and environment.
  • 3. Skills & Technical Competencies
  • Strong electrical maintenance knowledge
  • PLC basic troubleshooting (I/O diagnosis, sensor logic checks)
  • Pneumatics maintenance
  • Instrumentation and sensor calibration
  • Basic hydraulics knowledge
  • Basic mechanical and fitting knowledge
  • Reading electrical and pneumatic schematics
  • Understanding of automation systems preferred
  • Competency in using multimeter, clamp meter, tools & testers
  • Basic understanding of utility systems (chiller, compressor, pump systems)

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong teamwork during breakdown and peak production

  • 5. Additional Requirements
  • Must be comfortable working in a 3-shift rotational pattern.
  • Must support machine installations, trials, and commissioning when required.
  • Should be physically fit for plant-floor activities.
