They merge artistic creativity with manufacturing knowledge to develop prototypes, select color palettes, and collaborate with production teams to ensure designs are aesthetically pleasing and commercially viable.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign Creation: Develop original sketches, motifs, and repeating patterns for fabrics using CAD software like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.Research & Development: Stay up to date with the latest fashion trends, color forecasts (e.g., Pantone systems), and textile technologies.Material Selection: Choose appropriate fabrics, fibers, and dyes that fit the specific requirements of the product.Sampling & Production: Oversee the production of fabric samples and collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and scale.Client Collaboration: Present design concepts and prototypes to clients, fashion designers, or stakeholders, incorporating feedback.Essential Skills & QualificationsTechnical Proficiency: Strong command of digital design tools and textile production techniques (weaving, knitting, or printing).Color Theory: Deep understanding of color matching, pigments, and dyes.Creative Vision: A keen eye for detail, texture, and proportion.Project Management: Ability to meet tight deadlines, manage budgets, and handle multiple design projects simultaneously.Education & Background: A degree in Textile Design, Fashion Design, or a related arts discipline is typically required.
