Role Summary
Business Telephony Architect Job Description
The Business Telephony Architect is responsible for defining and leading the enterprise telephony and contact center architecture across a global environment, with a strong focus on Microsoft Teams Phone, global PSTN connectivity, call center platforms, and carrier/vendor management.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Strategy
- Define and maintain the global Microsoft Teams Phone architecture, including Operator Connect, Direct Routing, SBC topology, dial plans, emergency calling, and number governance.
- Establish enterprise standards for call flows, IVR/ACD routing, voicemail, auto attendants, and voice quality monitoring.
- Design integration patterns between Teams Phone and major contact center solutions such as Genesys Cloud, NICE CXone, Five9, or Amazon Connect.
- Develop modernization roadmapsPBX decommissioning, cloud migration, and Teams Phone expansion across global entities.
- Lead Merger, Acquisition & Divestiture projects for integration solutions.
Design & Delivery
- Architect and deliver solutions using Teams Phone, Teams-certified SBCs (AudioCodes, Ribbon), SIP trunks, and global carrier services.
- Lead the design of global emergency calling and regional compliance.
- Produce HLDs/LLDs, call routing diagrams, SIP traces, and failover plans.
Service Carrier & Vendor Management
- Own all aspects of carrier vendor management: procurement, RFPs, contract review, SLAs, and toll rate optimization.
- Manage DID procurement and global porting for Teams Phone.
- Oversee fraud prevention and emergency services provisioning.
Operations & Reliability
- Monitor health using Teams Admin Center, CQD, SBC analytics.
- Lead incident, change, and problem management.
- Implement security hardening across Teams Phone and SBCs.
Governance & Compliance
- Establish governance for Teams Phone usage, number assignments, recording, and retention.
- Maintain compliance with PCI, GDPR, HIPAA.
Required Qualifications
- 812+ years in enterprise telephony architecture with expert-level Teams Phone experience.
- Strong expertise in SIP, SBCs, PSTN services, dial plans, and global number management.
- Experience integrating cloud contact center solutions.
- PowerShell automation for Teams Voice.
- Strong vendor/carrier management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience migrating from PBX to Teams Phone.
- Certifications: Microsoft Teams Voice Engineer, AudioCodes/Ribbon, CCNP Collaboration.
