The TNI Solution Architect is a versatile, highly skilled technology generalist responsible for shaping and delivering enterprise architecture across Convatec's innovation, infrastructure, and platform portfolio.
This role is broad and hands-on, supporting initiatives such as:
- Cloud and on-premise hosting architecture
- Server migrations, data centre transitions, and re-platforming
- Custom-built applications and bespoke software solutions
- Database migrations and optimisation
- Enterprise integration and middleware patterns
- Legacy system modernization
- Evaluation and POCs of emerging technologies
- R&D, innovation pilots and rapid architectural prototyping
The Solution Architect will work closely with the TNI leadership team, engineering groups, security, infrastructure, business stakeholders, and third-party partners to ensure scalable, secure, and future-ready architectural outcomes.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead solution architecture for Technology & Innovation (R&D) initiatives spanning custom development, infrastructure, hosting environments, cloud platforms, on-premise systems, database transitions, and enterprise integrations.
- Design and document high-quality solution design artefacts for a wide range of technology solutions, from infrastructure modernization to custom application builds.
- Architect cloud-based and hybrid hosting environments (Azure preferred), including servers, networks, load balancing, security controls, and performance optimization.
- Support server moves, application re-hosting, OS upgrades, lifecycle transitions and re-platforming activities.
- Evaluate and design on-premise architecture for solutions that require local hosting, regulatory compliance, or low-latency demands.
- Lead database migration strategies, including SQL, Oracle, MySQL, NoSQL, and legacy database modernisation.
- Provide architectural guidance on integration patterns such as API-led connectivity, microservices, ESB, event-driven architectures, middleware, and GraphQL.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure solutions are delivered according to architectural standards and security-by-design principles.
- Identify technology gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities across existing environments.
- Lead or support technology pilots, hackathons, emerging-technology experiments, and rapid prototyping for the Technology & Innovation (R&D) organisation.
- Act as Technical Design Authority (TDA) for assigned Technology & Innovation (R&D) projects.
- Ensure alignment with Convatec's privacy, security, regulatory, and operational frameworks.
- Work with platform providers, hosting partners, and system integrators to understand product roadmaps, patterns, and best practices.
- Contribute to the future-state architecture vision for Technology & Innovation (R&D) and broader enterprise technology domains.

Key Requirements
- Broad solution architecture experience covering infrastructure, platforms, cloud, integration, and custom software development.
- Regulations and standards like HIPPA, etc,
- Experience with on-premise hosting, data centre operations, server migration planning, load balancing, failover, backup/DR and hybrid environments.
- Strong background in custom-built software, including solution design, application architecture, and modern development frameworks.
- Experience with database migrations, optimisations, and cross-platform transitions (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, etc.).
- Knowledge of enterprise integration including REST APIs, SOAP, GraphQL, messaging queues, ESB, middleware, event streaming.
- Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and application modernisation patterns.
- Experience writing HLA/HLD documentation that guides engineering teams through delivery.
- Strong communicator comfortable working with PMs, BAs, engineering leads, infrastructure
- Experience evaluating emerging technologies and conducting POCs.
Technical competencies
- Strong understanding of architecture modelling standards such as C4, ArchiMate, and system context modelling.
- Knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, containerisation, virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V, Azure VM), and networking fundamentals.
- Familiarity with scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python) to support automation and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of IT governance, compliance, security frameworks and operational standards.
- Good understanding of SDLC practices (Agile, DevOps, Waterfall) and the ability to work across them.
