About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Director - Risk & Finance Data.

The Technology Director - Risk & Finance Data will lead the transformation and delivery of Risk & Finance data applications for our bank. This senior leadership position is responsible for shaping and executing the technology strategy supporting our migration to modern technology stack across these functions, building and leading enterprisescale data engineering platforms that support critical regulatory, risk, and business data for the organization. This role is central to ensuring that highquality, governed, and auditable data is engineered, managed, and made available across the enterprise-particularly data required for regulatory submissions and supervisory expectations. This role will be within Enterprise Functions Technology (EFT) and will drive digital transformation, oversee platform modernization, drive data strategies, ensure compliance, manage technology risk and enable robust business partnerships. The role will lead the design and execution of cloudbased big data solutions leveraging platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and modern cloud data stacks, while ensuring strong data controls, lineage, resiliency, and transparency.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical background, proven leadership experience, and a focus on delivering safe, accurate, and user-centric solutions in an enterprise environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage a team of engineering managers and engineering leads
  • Focus on delivering commitments aligned to enterprise strategic priorities
  • Build support for strategies with business and technology leaders
  • Guide development of actionable roadmaps and plans
  • Identify opportunities and strategies for continuous improvement of software engineering practices
  • Provide oversight to software craftsmanship, security, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions developed by the teams or third party providers
  • Identify financial management and strategic resourcing
  • Set risk management guidelines and partner with stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives
  • Develop strategies for hiring engineering talent
  • Lead implementation of projects and encourage engineering innovation
  • Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including more experienced managers
  • Lead team to achieve objectives
  • Interface with external agencies, regulatory bodies or industry forums
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Technology Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy
  • Develop and execute the technology roadmap for the Risk and Finance Data functions aligned with business goals.

  • Drive large-scale system migrations, upgrades, and integrations.
  • Manage budgets, investments, and resources for Risk & Finance Data Technology.
  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy.

Enterprise Data Engineering & Platform Leadership

  • Lead the endtoend engineering of enterprise data platforms, supporting largescale structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Architect and deliver cloudnative big data solutions using modern data engineering frameworks.
  • Drive engineering best practices for data ingestion, transformation, storage, orchestration, and performance optimization at scale.
  • Own the technology roadmap for enterprise data engineering platforms in alignment with global architecture standards.

Data Governance, Quality & Controls

  • Embed data governance, metadata management, lineage, and data quality frameworks into engineering solutions.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise data standards, including reference data, master data, and critical data elements.
  • Drive automation for data quality checks, issue management, and remediation workflows.
  • Partner with Chief Data Office / Data Governance teams to operationalize governance within engineering platforms.

Engineering Solutions for Big Data Use Cases

  • Build scalable data solutions supporting risk analytics, regulatory reporting, financial reporting, and advanced analytics.
  • Enable nearrealtime and batch data processing use cases across the enterprise.
  • Support downstream consumers including risk models, analytics teams, reporting platforms, and AI/ML workloads.
  • Ensure data platforms are resilient, secure, and highly available.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and develop large, multilayered data engineering teams across locations.
  • Build a strong leadership bench, succession plans, and a culture of engineering excellence and accountability.
  • Act as a trusted technology advisor to senior business, risk, and technology leaders.
  • Influence global stakeholders and contribute to enterprisewide data strategy and transformation initiatives.


Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4+ years of management or leadership experience
  • Deep handson and leadership experience with big data and cloud data platforms, including:
  • Databricks
  • Snowflake
  • Cloud ecosystems (AWS / Azure / GCP)
  • Strong experience in engineering largescale data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses.
  • Proven experience managing critical, regulatorfacing data and supporting regulatory reporting and audits.
  • Solid understanding of data governance, data quality, lineage, and controls in an enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large engineering teams and manage complex stakeholder environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with senior leaders, regulators, and control partners


Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven track record in modernizing legacy systems and delivering complex transformation programs.
  • Strong understanding of modern cloud architectures, APIs, Agile/DevOps, Generative AI, Data Engineering, and data analytics.
  • Exposure to financial risk data domains (e.g., credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk, stress testing).
  • Experience enabling analytics, AI/ML, and advanced data consumption on enterprise platforms.
  • Background in global operating models with distributed engineering teams.
  • Strong experience collaborating with product and business stakeholders to deliver valuable and user-centric solutions.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution focus and analytical skills.
  • Experience managing IT budgets, sourcing, and vendor contracts.
  • Financial industry experience or familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements.
