Job Description

Designation: Techno-Commercial Engineer

Location:Vadodara, Gujarat

Job Summary

The Techno-Commercial Engineer will play a critical role in the proposals department, responsible for preparing technically robust and commercially competitive bids. This role involves analyzing customer requirements, designing solutions, estimating costs, coordinating with cross-functional teams (engineering, procurement, sales), and ensuring compliance with both client and company standards. The engineer will bridge the gap between technical feasibility and business objectives to help win projects.

Key Responsibilities

Bid & Proposal Management

Review and analyze Request for Quotations (RFQs), tender documents, specifications, and client requirements.

Lead or contribute to proposal planning establish timelines, deliverables, and required resources.

Develop technical solution architecture aligned with the customer's needs and project constraints.

Technical Design & Solutioning

  • Perform system / equipment sizing, load calculations, and design as per project requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams (design, process, electrical, mechanical, etc.) to define the optimal technical solution.
  • Prepare technical documentation: system architecture diagrams, P&IDs, layouts, compliance matrices.

Cost Estimation & Commercials

  • Estimate with strong accuracy; build Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Interface with procurement / vendor teams to get techno-commercial offers for third-party items.
  • Prepare commercial proposal components: pricing, terms & conditions, commercial assumptions, risk factors.
  • Conduct risk assessment and define mitigation strategies for technical and commercial risks.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Procurement, Finance teams to align on proposal content.
  • Participate in bid clarification meetings with customers, negotiate technical and commercial queries.
  • Present proposal to internal review committees ensure technical and commercial quality.

Client Interface

  • Support pre-bid and post-bid client discussions: explain technical solutions, justify cost, handle clarifications.
  • Represent the company in technical-commercial negotiations, defend proposal assumptions and cost drivers.

Documentation & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain proposal documentation, version control, and archives.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and tendering procedures.
  • Track proposal progress, status, and feedback for continuous improvement.

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain proposal templates, tools, and best-practices.
  • Conduct win/loss analysis to identify lessons and improve future proposals.

Required Qualifications / Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or relevant discipline).
  • Experience: 18 years (adjust as per seniority) in proposal or estimating roles in engineering/EPC / manufacturing / relevant domain.

  • Technical Skills:
  • Good understanding of engineering systems relevant to your industry (e.g., process plants, equipment, control systems).
  • Proficiency in technical drawing / design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Visio) (if needed).
  • Strong Excel skills for cost modeling, estimation, and financial analysis.
  • Commercial Acumen:
  • Ability to prepare detailed cost estimates, negotiate with vendors, and assess commercial risk.
  • Understanding of commercial terms, contracts, and pricing strategies.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) for internal teams and client interactions.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Project management skills ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail, time management, and ability to work under tight deadlines.

Performance Metrics / KPIs

  • Number of bids submitted / won vs. lost ratio.
  • Accuracy of cost estimates (variance between estimated vs actual cost).
  • Timeliness of proposal delivery.
  • Quality of proposals (client feedback, internal reviews).
  • Contribution to process improvements and proposal template optimizations.

Working Conditions
