Role OverviewYou will lead the engineering team responsible for evolving our COBRA platform — a system that handles complex eligibility rules, time-sensitive workflows, and regulatory triggers. This role blends hands-on engineering, architectural ownership, and team leadership.

- Team Leadership & Delivery Excellence
- Lead, mentor, and grow engineers through coaching and structured feedback
- Own sprint planning, execution predictability, and delivery quality
- Align engineering priorities with product and regulatory requirements
- Identify risks, technical gaps, and compliance impacts early
- Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and engineering rigor
- Own the long-term technical health of the COBRA platform
- Drive architectural decisions for new features, refactors, and modernization
- Ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability
- Maintain architecture diagrams and technical documentation
- Identify and prioritize technical debt based on business impact
- Contribute to complex or high-risk components
- Lead technical design reviews and enforce engineering standards
- Ensure robust testing strategies and safe release practices
- Balance delivery velocity with long-term sustainability
- Translate COBRA rules, timelines, and eligibility logic into deterministic system behaviour
- Design rule engines and workflows that are predictable, testable, and auditable
- Ensure precision in time-bound triggers, notifications, and compliance events
- Identify hidden edge cases and systemic risks through strong analytical reasoning
- Design systems for fault tolerance, retries, and graceful degradation
- Lead root cause analysis and drive permanent fixes
- Improve observability: logging, monitoring, tracing, alerting
- Establish reliability KPIs aligned with business impact
- Reduce operational overhead and recurring failures
- Ensure adherence to HIPAA and internal security standards
- Drive secure coding practices and data protection mechanisms
- Ensure auditability, traceability, and data integrity
- Collaborate with security teams during audits and assessments
- Proactively identify vulnerabilities and compliance gaps
- Partner with Product, Operations, and Compliance teams
- Communicate technical trade-offs and regulatory constraints clearly
- Ensure engineering decisions align with business and compliance goals
Backend & Distributed Systems
- C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET Core
- API design, async programming, clean architecture, SOLID principles
- Microservices architecture and distributed systems
- Transactional integrity across distributed services
- Strong SQL expertise: schema design, indexing, query optimization
Cloud & DevOps
- Microsoft Azure (App Services, Functions, Storage, Key Vault, Service Bus)
- CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar)
- Observability: logs, metrics, tracing, dashboards
Frontend
- Angular (TypeScript, RxJS, component architecture)
- Ability to review frontend architecture and debug cross-stack issues
- Strong understanding of API contracts and integration patterns
Domain Knowledge (Good to Have)
- US COBRA regulations and lifecycle workflows
- Healthcare, benefits administration, or regulated domains
- HIPAA compliance and data privacy best practices
Experience & Expectations
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 2+ years leading or mentoring engineers
- Experience delivering scalable systems in regulated environments preferred
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills
- Ability to reason about complex rule-based systems
- Excellent communication across technical and business teams
