About the Role
A Technical Program Manager drives complex, cross-team technical programs that require deep coordination across KKR's ADAPT engineering domains (AI, Data, Platform, Infrastructure, SRE, End User Computing). TPMs partner closely with engineering and product leadership to deliver initiatives where architecture, integration, reliability, performance, and technical trade-offs are central to success. TPMs are expected to be technically fluent (able to understand system design, APIs, data flows, reliability constraints), while remaining primarily accountable for program execution, cross-functional alignment, and outcomes. They will partner closely with technical leads to drive the technical implementation plans and roadmaps. TPMs must be able to work in a complex environment with matrixed teams and organizations. TPMs must provide project and program visibility to technical and business stakeholders around key projects, status, risks, and postlaunch metrics.
Responsibilities
- Scope and Typical Programs
- Multi-team, multi-quarter initiatives with significant dependencies and ambiguity
- Examples include:
- New platform capability or shared service rollout (platform, infrastructure, SRE)
- AI/ML model lifecycle programs (data pipelines, feature stores, deployment, monitoring)
- Reliability and resiliency initiatives (SLOs, incident reduction, scaling, disaster recovery)
- Data architecture migration (Data Fabric, governance, lineage, BI tooling)
- Internal developer platform improvements (CI/CD, observability, golden paths)
- Technical integration for newly acquired or merged companies
- Platform migrations and data center decommissioning
- Program Strategy and Planning
- Define program objectives, success metrics, scope boundaries, and sequencing
- Build an integrated roadmap across teams and manage the critical path and trade-offs
- Technical Coordination
- Translate business goals into technical milestones and engineering deliverables
- Drive integration plans across services, APIs, data contracts, and environments
- Ensure non-functional requirements are planned, including reliability, scalability, security, privacy, cost, and observability
- Execution Leadership
- Establish operating cadence across internal and dependent teams (working sessions, project reviews, milestone reviews, launch readiness, go/no-go)
- Anticipate bottlenecks and negotiate sequencing and resourcing with engineering leaders
- Own RAID management and escalation with clear options and recommendations
- Release and Operational Readiness
- Drive launch plans, cutovers, feature flags, rollback strategies, and runbooks
- Partner with SRE and Infrastructure teams to ensure monitoring, alerting, SLOs, and on-call readiness
- Stakeholder Management
- Align engineering, product or business, security or compliance, and operations teams
- Communicate progress and trade-offs clearly to leadership and maintain a decision log
TPM Expectations
- A Technical Program Manager consistently:
- Drives cross-team execution without relying on escalation as the primary lever
- Reduces ambiguity by creating clear charters, milestones, and dependency maps
- Understands sufficient technical detail to:
- Ask the right questions
- Surface integration risks early
- Identify missing work (such as telemetry, data backfills, disaster recovery, access controls)
- Anticipates and manages systemic risks such as migration complexity, reliability debt, and data quality
- Ensures operational excellence through readiness reviews, runbooks, SLOs, and post-launch validation
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
Required Skills
- Strong program management fundamentals including project planning, dependency mapping, RAID management, and stakeholder management
- Technical fluency in system design concepts, APIs, data flows, environments, and CI/CD concepts
- Experience driving cross-team software, platform, or infrastructure programs
- Ability to handle ambiguity and facilitate technical decision-making
Preferred Skills
- Experience with AI/ML or data platforms
- Familiarity with SRE practices such as SLO, SLI, incident management, and observability
- Experience with large migrations, platform modernization, or reliability programs
Pay range and compensation package
Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
