About Ginesys
Ginesys (Ginni Systems Ltd) is India's leading retail technology platform, powering 1,200+ customers and 50,000+ users with its unified Ginesysone suite encompassing ERP, POS, Order Management, Warehouse Management, and GST Compliance solutions. GinesysOne was built through a deliberate 5-year acquisition strategy bringing together Browntape (OMS), Zwing (Cloud POS), and EaseMyGST (GST Compliance) into a single unified platform.
We are now at the most critical inflection point in the company's history: transforming from a collection of acquired products into a truly unified platform and simultaneously evolving from a System of Records to a System of Intelligence through Ginesys AI. The Head of Engineering is the single most important hire to make this transformation real.
The Role In One Line
You don't manage people. You manage programs. You are the CTO's execution arm owning cross-functional program plans, dependencies, risks, and stakeholder communication so that multi-quarter initiatives land on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Planning & Execution
- Own the end-to-end program plan for each strategic initiative scope definition, milestone breakdown, dependency mapping, resource identification, and timeline commitment
- Break multi-quarter programs into phased, deliverable-driven plans with clear exit criteria for each phase
- Run weekly program reviews with workstream leads; escalate blockers to the CTO with context and recommended actions, not just status updates
- Maintain a single source of truth dashboards, trackers, and risk logs the CTO and CEO can review without asking for updates
- Cross-Team Dependency Management
- Identify and track cross-team dependencies before they become blockers this is the core value of the role
- Coordinate across Engineering verticals (ERP, Zwing, OMS), Shared App Platform, Infra, Data & AI, Product, and Customer Success to align priorities and timelines
- Facilitate trade-off discussions when teams have competing priorities bring data and options, not just the problem
- Own the dependency matrix across active programs; ensure no team is surprised by upstream or downstream commitments
- Technical Depth & Challenge Function
- Understand system architecture deeply enough to challenge engineering estimates, identify hidden complexity, and validate that migration plans are technically sound
- Participate in design reviews for migration strategies, cutover plans, and rollback approaches not to approve architecture, but to ensure program risks are surfaced
- Distinguish between engineering complexity and engineering ambiguity push for spikes and POCs when estimates have high variance
- Understand data migration patterns, API versioning, backward compatibility, and zero-downtime deployment strategies well enough to ask the right questions
- Risk Management & Escalation
- Maintain a program risk register with clear ownership, impact assessment, mitigation plans, and trigger points for escalation
- Surface risks early and with context not Team X is 2 weeks behind but Team X is 2 weeks behind because of Y, which impacts Z milestone, and here are 3 options to recover.
- Proactively identify scope creep and manage it through formal change requests with impact analysis
- Own the escalation path: workstream lead TPM resolution CTO escalation (with recommendation)
- Stakeholder Communication
- Provide weekly program updates to the CTO concise, decision-oriented, with clear RAG status and action items
- Prepare monthly executive summaries for CEO and leadership on program portfolio health
- Coordinate with Product and Customer Success on customer-facing migration timelines, communication plans, and rollout schedules
- Ensure all teams have a shared understanding of what done looks like for each program milestone
- Customer Migration Program Management
- Own the customer migration playbook standardized process for moving each customer through assessment, preparation, migration, validation, and go-live
- Maintain the customer migration tracker which customers, which phase, blockers, target dates, and sign-off status
- Coordinate migration scheduling with Customer Success to minimize business disruption (avoid peak seasons, sale events, GST filing periods)
- Run post-migration reviews to capture lessons learned and improve the playbook for subsequent batches
- Process & Tooling
- Set up and maintain program management tooling Jira programs/portfolios, Confluence spaces, dashboards, or equivalent
- Define templates for program charters, status reports, risk logs, and post-mortems so future programs start with structure, not from scratch
- Introduce lightweight governance without bureaucracy visibility and accountability, not process for its own sake
Required Qualifications
- 812 years in technical program management; 34 years managing large-scale, cross-functional technology programs (migrations, platform consolidations, infrastructure transformations)
- Strong technical foundation comfortable reading architecture diagrams, understanding API contracts, discussing data migration strategies, and challenging engineering estimates with specifics
- Proven experience managing multi-team programs with 4+ parallel workstreams and hard external deadlines
- Experience with customer-facing migrations moving live customers from one system to another with zero or minimal downtime
- Excellent influencing skills ability to drive accountability across engineering, product, and business teams without a reporting line
- Strong written communication program charters, status reports, and executive summaries that drive decisions, not just inform
- Proficiency with program management tools (Jira, Confluence, or equivalent); B.Tech / B.E. in CS, IT, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in SaaS product companies, especially ERP, retail tech, or enterprise platforms
- Experience managing on-prem to cloud migration programs at scale (100+ customers)
- Background in software engineering or DevOps before moving to program management former developers or architects who transitioned to TPM are ideal
- Experience with data platform migrations (BI tools, analytics, data warehouses)
