Tax Operations Manager(Remote – Philippines / India)
Overview
CFOAF is seeking a highly experienced Tax Operations Manager to oversee the execution, flow, and quality of tax work across the firm.
This role serves as the operational backbone of the tax team, working directly with the Tax Manager to ensure all client work is completed accurately, on time, and in alignment with firm standards.
You will not be responsible for creating tax strategy—but you will be responsible for ensuring that the strategy is executed correctly, deadlines are met, and client communication is handled at a high level.
This is a high-trust, high-responsibility role requiring strong judgment, communication, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Workflow & Deadline Management (Karbon)
- Own and manage all tax workflows within Karbon
- Monitor deadlines across all clients (individual and business)
- Identify bottlenecks and proactively resolve workflow issues
- Reassign work based on capacity and priority (with authority)
- Ensure no work is missed, delayed, or improperly staged
2. Quality Control & Communication Oversight
- Review and approve client-facing emails and templates
- Ensure all communication is clear, professional, and accurate
- Maintain consistency in tone and messaging across the firm
- Reduce back-and-forth by ensuring completeness before sending
3. Tax Execution Support
- Review estimated tax payments for accuracy and reasonableness
- Ensure returns are progressing properly through each stage
- Identify missing information before it becomes a delay
- Support preparers and admins in executing work efficiently
4. Leadership & Team Support
- Act as second-in-command to the Tax Manager
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for admins
- Train and guide tax admins on processes and standards
- Enforce SOPs, workflows, and internal policies
5. Reporting & Operational Insight
- Generate and analyze Karbon reports
- Track team productivity, completion rates, and bottlenecks
- Provide insights and recommendations for improving efficiency
Requirements
Experience
- 5+ years in a U.S. tax and accounting firm
- Strong understanding of:
- Individual and business tax return workflows
- Full-cycle accounting principles
- Experience with workflow/project management systems (Karbon preferred)
- Hands-on experience preparing or reviewing U.S. tax returns (individual and/or business) is required. This role does not focus on tax preparation but requires a strong understanding of how returns are prepared and flow through completion.
Skills
- Exceptional written and verbal English communication

- Confidence to make decisions and enforce standards
Technical
- Experience with U.S. tax workflows required, with proven ability to manage deadlines and communication successfully
- Familiarity with tools such as:
- Karbon (preferred)
- UltraTax, or similar tax software
- Google Workspace

Compensation
Competitive based on experience and location
Typical range:
- Philippines: $12 – $20 USD/hour
- India: $10 – $18 USD/hour
Higher compensation available for candidates with strong U.S. tax experience and leadership capability.

- Must be available during overlapping U.S. business hours (8-5 Arizona time)
