Talend Admin L6 (7+ Years)
Key Skills Required for Talend Upgrade (7.x to 8.x)
1. Talend Administration Expertise
In-depth knowledge of Talend Administration Center (TAC) configuration and
components.
Experience managing Talend Runtime (ESB), JobServer, and Execution
Servers.
Understanding of user roles, permissions, and LDAP/SSO integrations.
2. Talend Version Management
Familiarity with upgrade paths, compatibility matrices, and release notes
between 7.3 and 8.x.
Understanding of deprecated components, changes in metadata repositories,
and Studio updates.
3. System & Environment Knowledge
Strong experience with Linux/Unix and Windows server administration.
Familiarity with application servers (e.g., Tomcat) and Java environments.
Understanding of databases used by Talend (e.g., MySQL/PostgreSQL for TAC
metadata).
Knowledge of SSL, certificates, and secure communication between TAC and
JobServer.
4. DevOps & Automation
Scripting skills (Shell, Python, PowerShell) for environment backup and
restoration.
Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Git, Nexus) and Talend CI builder for 8.x.
Docker/Kubernetes experience if using Talend Cloud or hybrid architecture.
Ability to compare job execution behaviors across versions.
Roles and Responsibilities of a Talend Admin during Upgrade
Pre-Upgrade Planning
Review and document existing environment setup (TAC, JobServers,
Runtimes, DBs).
Identify and list all active jobs, components, and dependencies.
Assess customizations, plugins, and third-party integrations for compatibility.
Upgrade Execution
Install and configure the new Talend 8.x stack (Studio, TAC, Runtime).
Migrate TAC metadata and repository configurations.
Upgrade Talend Studio projects and resolve component compatibility issues.
Migrate JobServer configurations and validate execution flows.
Reconfigure LDAP/SSO, email servers, license keys, and performance
parameters.
Post-Upgrade Validation
Monitor job executions, logs, and resource consumption.
Validate user access, execution permissions, and schedules.
Risk Management & Rollback Plan
Maintain rollback strategy in case of failure.
Document known issues, fixes, and workarounds for the team.
Documentation & Handover
Document configuration changes, system architecture updates, and SOPs.
Train developers and support teams on any new features or changes in Talend
8.x.
Ensure all monitoring and alerting systems are updated post-upgrade.
