The Sr Project Engineer (II) will play a key role in supporting the Project Lead Engineer and Project Managers in the engineering and delivery of NTPC thermal power plant projects, particularly under Renovation & Modernization (R&M) scope. This position demands deeper technical expertise, leadership in engineering execution, and the ability to guide junior engineers. Responsibilities include advanced design, documentation, site surveys, installation, commissioning, and cross-functional coordination.

Responsibilities

Engineering & Design:

  • Lead and support the development of functional design specifications based on process requirements.
  • Develop control logic for Closed Loop & Open Loop systems.
  • Prepare and maintain I/O databases and assignments for control systems.
  • Design and Engineer System, Marshalling, and Relay Panels.
  • Generate system architecture and wiring diagrams as per project needs.
  • Ensure all design inputs, tools, and documentation are in place before execution.
  • Deliver engineering solutions that meet project standards, quality, and cost targets.

Project Execution

  • Extensive site survey experience including assessment of legacy systems, documentation of existing configurations, and identification of development needs. This skill is highly valued for R&M projects and carries significant weightage during candidate evaluation.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing.
  • Lead site installation and commissioning activities as per project schedule.
  • Proactively identify and implement quality and efficiency improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery and issue resolution.

Technical Expertise

  • Experience in DCS/Safety System design and detailed engineering.
  • Familiarity with 3rd party system integration and communication protocols (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus).
  • Hands-on site commissioning experience is mandatory.
  • Exposure to Advanced Alarm Management and Asset Management systems.
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation standards and P&IDs.
  • Working knowledge of Sequence Control Modules, including design, configuration, and implementation for automated process sequences in thermal power plant equipment's.
  • Tuning experience in both Boiler and Turbine control loops is considered an added advantage, especially for NTPC thermal power plant operations.

  • Turbine Protection System (TPS)
  • Master Fuel Trip (MFT)
  • Electrical Systems
  • Turbine Control Systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, or Electronics & Communication Engineering.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Process Automation, preferably in the Power domain
