Job Title: Specialist Systems Engineer – Energy Storage Integration
Job Description
This Specialist Systems Engineer role focuses on designing and delivering integrated residential energy storage solutions that bring together power electronics hardware, firmware, power subsystems, and mechanical assemblies. You will architect system-level designs, drive cross-functional integration, and work hands-on in the lab to validate, debug, and refine high-quality, high-reliability products used in long-warranty, high-stress environments. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys close collaboration with development teams and solving complex systems challenges from concept through production.
Responsibilities
- Architect and review system integration designs and diagrams for residential energy storage systems, including energy storage, load controllers, and transfer switches.
- Design and deliver system integrations of power electronics hardware that tightly integrate with firmware, power subsystems, and mechanical assemblies.
- Partner closely with electrical, firmware, mechanical, test, and manufacturing teams to deliver highly integrated, production-ready designs.
- Define critical system-level specifications and ensure cross-functional engineering teams deliver on product development milestones.
- Provide technical mentorship to engineering team members, including conducting design reviews and guiding team development.
- Incorporate lessons learned and feedback from on-market products to improve system design for new product development.
- Work hands-on in the lab with prototypes and production-intent hardware to perform validation, debugging, and test automation.
- Support design documentation activities, ensuring adherence to best practices for system and design documentation.
- Contribute to the development of high-quality, high-reliability products suitable for long warranty periods and high-stress operating environments.
- Collaborate with compliance, test, and manufacturing partners to support design transfer activities and ensure designs are ready for production.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE or MSEE).
- 10+ years of experience in relevant engineering development or a similar field.
- Strong background in electronics design, embedded systems, and/or mechanical engineering.
- Proven experience designing and integrating power electronics hardware with firmware, power subsystems, and mechanical assemblies.
- Hands-on lab experience with validation, debugging, and test automation tools.
- Familiarity with design constraints related to thermal performance, safety, and manufacturability.
- Demonstrated record of successful cross-functional execution in new product development settings.
- Prior experience applying design documentation best practices for complex systems.
- Experience working on high-quality, high-reliability products designed for long warranty periods and high-stress environments.
- Ability to provide technical mentorship and lead design reviews for multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with energy systems, residential energy storage, or related power systems.
- background working with IoT devices or embedded hardware in regulated environments.
- Exposure to compliance testing standards such as UL, IEC, and EMC.
- Experience supporting design transfer activities to contract manufacturing organizations.
- Technical knowledge spanning Electrical Engineering, Firmware Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Technical leadership experience debugging and solving complex systems problems across hardware, firmware, and mechanical domains.
Work Environment
You will work in a collaborative engineering environment that emphasizes close interaction between electrical, firmware, mechanical, test, and manufacturing teams. The role involves significant hands-on time in the lab with prototypes and production-intent hardware, using validation, debugging, and test automation tools to refine integrated energy storage systems. The work centers on developing high-quality, high-reliability products for residential applications, often operating in demanding, high-stress conditions and designed for long warranty lifetimes. You can expect a culture that values technical excellence, thorough design documentation, and continuous improvement based on feedback from products already in the field.
