We are looking for a
System Modeling Engineer to design, build, and maintain models of complex space/aerospace systems. You will work closely with systems engineering, mission design, software, and operations teams to create models that support
design trade studies, performance analysis, simulations, and operational decision-making.
You'll be responsible for translating real-world subsystem behavior (e.g. power, thermal, ADCS, communications, propulsion, payload) into
digital models that are accurate, maintainable, and well-integrated with our existing tool-chain and data sources.
Key Responsibilities:
- System & Subsystem Modeling
- Develop end-to-end models of spacecraft / aerospace system behavior (power budgets, data budgets, thermal, ADCS, COMMS, mission timelines, etc.).
- Build and maintain parametric models for key subsystems to support trade-offs and architecture decisions.
- Integrate telemetry / flight data to calibrate and validate models.
- Simulation & Analysis
- Set up and run simulations to evaluate performance under different scenarios (nominal, degraded, and failure modes).
- Support mission analysis (coverage, visibility, link margins, duty cycles, consumables usage).
- Perform sensitivity, Monte Carlo, and worst-case analyses to understand margins and risks.
- Tooling & Automation
- Develop reusable modelling components, scripts, and tools in environments such as Python, MATLAB/Simulink, Modelica, or similar.
- Connect models with databases and tools (e.g. telemetry DBs, digital twin / monitoring systems, configuration management).
- Help define interfaces so models can be used by other teams (APIs, config files, parameter sets).
- Requirements & Verification Support
- Translate system-level requirements into model assumptions, parameters, and test cases.
- Use modelling results to demonstrate requirement compliance and support verification activities.
- Contribute to design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, ORR, etc.) with clear visualizations and model-based evidence.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with systems engineers, software engineers, operations, and mission planners to ensure models reflect reality and are usable day-to-day.
- Document modelling approaches, assumptions, and limitations in a way that non-experts can understand.
- Provide modelling support during on-orbit operations and anomaly investigations.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- 13 years of experience in system modelling, simulation, or system analysis (space, aerospace, automotive, or similar complex systems).
- Strong proficiency in at least one modelling/simulation environment, e.g.:
- Python (NumPy, SciPy, pandas, PyMC, custom simulation frameworks)
- MATLAB / Simulink
- NVIDIA Omniverse
- Modelica or similar tools
- Solid understanding of systems engineering concepts: requirements, interfaces, margins, trade-off analysis, verification & validation.
- Experience working with real data: telemetry, lab test data, or flight/operational data.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical results through plots, reports, and presentations.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with spacecraft systems (EPS, OBC, ADCS, COMMS, payload, propulsion, thermal).
- Experience building or contributing to a digital twin or model-based monitoring / alerting system.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other relational databases and integrating models with live or historical telemetry.
- Knowledge of FastAPI, REST APIs, or microservice architectures for exposing model outputs.
- Experience with probabilistic modelling and uncertainty quantification.
- Familiarity with SysML or other model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools.
- Experience working in an agile, cross-functional product or mission team.
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills; comfortable dealing with incomplete or noisy data.
- Ability to work independently, but also collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams.
- Clear written and verbal communication; able to explain complex models to non-modelling experts.
- Curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable iterating quickly based on feedback and real-world results.
