We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to own, secure, and scale the infrastructure powering our payment gateway platform. This role is critical to ensuring high availability, security, compliance, and performance in a 24/7 financial transaction environment. You will work closely with engineering, security, and compliance teams to maintain mission-critical systems handling sensitive financial data. This position requires deep hands-on expertise, strong judgment, and the ability to operate independently in a remote, high-responsibility role.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, deploy, and maintain highly available, fault-tolerant infrastructure for payment processing systems
- Administer and optimize Linux-based servers (production, staging, and DR environments)
- Manage cloud infrastructure AWS including compute, networking, storage, and IAM
- Implement and maintain security best practices (hardening, patching, access control, encryption)
- Ensure compliance with PCI-DSS, SOC 2, and other financial/security standards
- Monitor system performance, uptime, and logs; proactively identify and resolve issues
- Design and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans
- Automate infrastructure and operational tasks using IaC and scripting
- Support CI/CD pipelines and collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams
- Handle incident response, root cause analysis, and post-mortem reporting
- Maintain detailed documentation and operational runbooks
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical production systems
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 3 years of systems administration experience (or equivalent deep expertise)
- Expert-level Linux administration (Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS, or similar)
- Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred: EC2, VPC, RDS, EKS, IAM, CloudWatch)
- Advanced knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, load balancers)
- Experience with containerization & orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi
- Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, or similar)
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog, etc.)
- Deep understanding of security principles in financial systems
- Experience managing databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar) at an infrastructure level
- Familiarity with HSMs, key management, and encryption is a strong plus
