Synopsis Writer Position Overview:

We are seekinga versatile and creative writer to join the Product Merchandising team. In this role, you'll help members navigate a sea of content by summarizing movies and television shows with concise, creative and engaging synopses. This role is perfect for an entertainment obsessed generalist who is passionate about content and storytelling, loves to ideate on language and thrives on collaborative editing cycles. This requires a writer who can tackle many assignments with enough creative energy to make each synopsis sing. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer/editor who is an expert on Indian media and entertainment we are particularly interested in writers who have proven proficiency in writing and editing world-class creative content in English.

This position will be a remote, 6 month (subject to certain conditions), full-time contract, expected to work approximately 40 hours a week. We will prioritize candidates located in India.

Responsibilities:

Write synopses about Indian movies and TV shows in English. A typical day might include writing a number of synopses a week everything from the latest reality TV show, to a high-budget historical drama series or pitch-perfect rom com.

Other product writing, including collection and row naming, email copy or push notifications around titles in English for India

Reviewing Product writing for quality and local relevance

Work closely with a Writing Strategist to ensure that your copy meets the needs of the writing brief and the needs of the market.

Embody editorial principles to create accurate, inclusive and creative synopses that are nuanced enough to resonate with different audiences.

Requirements:

Full high-level working proficiency in English

Deep knowledge of Hindi, Tamil and Telugu entertainment landscapes.

Understanding of the social and political landscapes in India

Excellent writing and editing skills

Knowledge of other Indian Languages are also highly desired especially Hindi, Tamil or Telugu.

Experience writing synopses for streamers and broadcasters. Editing articles, blog posts, reviews, or feature stories about film and TV

Experience writing other short-form Product copy or taglines for push notifications, UI copy or email messaging.

Mastery of AP style and attention to detail help you gather context about

Research skills to titles and quickly synthesize information from a variety of sources

Ability to work autonomously and hit deadlines across multiple projects simultaneously. Applicants for this position will be asked to complete a writing exercise.
