Job Description

Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Assistant Sustainability Consultant. We are seeking candidates who are looking to work on some of the largest and most interesting sustainability and carbon projects in the UK and internationally. The position is permanent with the opportunity for hybrid home/office working.

We are seeking someone who prides themselves on delivering technically excellent work, with strong analytical and reporting standards, and who embraces innovative approaches to sustainability assessment. In this role, you will work on life cycle assessments (LCA), embodied carbon studies, and sustainability certification deliverables (LEED, BREEAM etc), supporting low-carbon strategies across infrastructure and built environment projects. You will contribute to data collection, modelling, and interpretation, and help embed whole-life carbon principles into design and procurement decisions.

You will collaborate with a wider team of professionals across disciplines to provide integrated sustainability solutions to our clients.

We look forward to hearing from aspiring consultants who are passionate about sustainability. While prior experience in LCA or certification is desirable, what matters most is your drive, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn and grow in this evolving field.

Your role

  • Deliver and support LCAs and embodied carbon studies, including data collection, validation, and benchmarking.
  • Prepare auditable LCA reports and sustainability documentation for certifications (LEED/BREEAM).
  • Use LCA tools, integrate BIM data, and manage datasets for robust models.
  • Apply PAS 2080, RICS WLCA, and green building standards (LEED BD+C).
  • Review carbon factors/EPDs and advise on low-carbon procurement.
  • Document technical notes and contribute to bids and client presentations.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and procurement teams to embed low-carbon design early.

About you

  • Ideally, you would have the following qualifications and/or attributes:
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Civil / Environmental / Mechanical Engineering / Building Services / Architecture or related discipline.
  • Relevant credentials (e.g., LEED GA/AP, BREEAM/CEEQUAL Assessor) are a plus.

  • Working knowledge of ISO 14040/14044, EN 15978, EN 15804.
  • Sustainability accreditation (LEED AP/GA or equivalent) preferred, international exposure a plus.
  • Ability to interpret EPDs and advise on low-carbon alternatives.
  • Strong data skills (Excel, QA/QC, quantity take-off/BIM exports).
  • Excellent technical writing and stakeholder communication.
  • Exposure to data visualization tools (Power BI, Tabula, Spotfire).
  • Prior experience in sustainability consulting or green building projects.
  • Familiarity with advanced LCA tools and international certification standards (LEED, BREEAM).
  • Exposure to data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and advising on low-carbon strategies.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled workflows and automation tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Python scripting) to enhance data analysis, sustainability reporting, and decision support.
  • ISO 14040/14044 (LCA principles & requirements).
  • EN 15978 (building environmental performance calc. method).
  • EN 15804 (+A2) (EPD core rules for construction products).
  • RICS WLCA - 2nd edition (global) (effective 1 July 2024).
  • PAS 2080:2023 (whole life carbon management in buildings & infra).
  • LEED BREEAM Infrastructure/CEEQUAL.
