Job description: Supplier Quality Engineer

Location: Krishnagiri, Hosur

About The Gig

We are seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) with expertise in casting, forging, and machining processes to drive supplier quality and performance.

The candidate should be an SME with strong knowledge of metallurgical quality, material integrity, and process consistency for casting, forging, and heat-treated components. The role involves working closely with Sourcing, NPD, Engineering, and suppliers to ensure components meet required quality standards, with a focus on defect prevention and root cause analysis.

Experience in surface coatings and treatments such as painting, powder coating, CED, and plating is preferred.

What Youll Do

Review metallurgical aspects of:

Design documents Drawing, Standards

• PFMEA (process risks related to material failure)
• Control plans (inspection stages)
  
  

Approve

• Material test reports in PPAP submissions
• Validate first-off and pilot samples
• Conduct:
  
  

Process audits (Heat treatment, foundry, forge shops)

Special process audits (CQI-9 Heat Treatment)

• Identify process gaps and drive corrective actions
• Improve supplier capability in metallurgy controls
  
  

Lead Investigation Of

• Field failures
• Line rejections
  
  

Support Design Team On

• Material selection
• Heat treatment feasibility
  
  

Ensure lessons learned from past failures are implemented

• Expertise in:
  
  

Microstructure interpretation

Hardness & mechanical testing

Surface coating reports - Paint Gloss, DFT, LAB,UV etc.,

• Should be able to handle heat treatment, RM , surface treament processess - qualification, assesment , approval
• Creating standards , AOI, etc.,
• Approval of Supplier parts Strong supplier handling & Q negotiation skills
• Analytical and problem-solving mindset - incoming, in house and customer complaints related to metallurgy
• Should be able to handle fasteners nad other surface treated parts - concluding painted parts
• SHould be able to handle painted parts both plastic and metal paintings
• Ability to work under pressure and meet timelines
• Cross-functional collaboration
• Drive containment, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  
  

What You Bring

• BE / B.Tech / M.Tech Metallurgy / Materials Engineering
• 4-10 years of experience in: Supplier Quality / Metallurgy
• Certification in:
• Six Sigma (Green Belt)
• Internal Auditor (IATF 16949)
• Strong knowledge of:
• APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA
• GD&T interpretation
• Metallurgy basics (grain structure, defects like porosity, cracks)
• Hands-on in:
• Process audits (VDA 6.3 preferred)
• Root cause tools (5 Why, Fishbone, 8D)
