Job Summary
We are seeking a Substation Design Engineer responsible for the design and engineering of electrical substations up to 132 kV voltage level. The candidate will be responsible for preparing design calculations, layouts, drawings, technical specifications, and coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines to ensure successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Substation Electrical Design
- Design AIS/GIS substations up to 132 kV voltage level.
- Preparation of Single Line Diagrams (SLD).
- Develop General Arrangement (GA) drawings.
- Equipment layout and clearance design as per standards.
2. Substation Equipment Engineering
Selection and specification of major equipment such as:
- Power Transformers
- Circuit Breakers
- Isolators / Disconnectors
- Current Transformers (CT)
- Potential Transformers (PT/CVT)
- Lightning Arresters
- Busbar systems
- Control & Protection panels
3. Earthing System Design
- Design substation earthing grid as per IEEE 80 / IS 3043.
- Perform touch voltage and step voltage calculations.
- Ground resistance calculation and earthing layout preparation.
4. Lightning Protection Design
- Design lightning protection system using shielding angle method.
- Lightning mast placement and protection coverage calculation.
5. Busbar & Conductor Design
- Selection of ACSR / Aluminium tube busbars.
- Current carrying capacity calculations.
- Short circuit withstand capability calculations.
6. Protection & Control System
- Preparation of:
- Protection SLD
- Interlocking scheme
- Relay logic diagrams
- Coordination with protection engineers for relay setting calculations.
7. Cable Engineering
- Preparation of:
- Cable schedules
- Cable routing layouts
- Control wiring diagrams
- Cable trench layouts
- Selection of appropriate control and power cables.
8. Engineering Documentation
Prepare and review:
- Single Line Diagram (SLD)
- Substation Layout Drawings
- Equipment Layout
- Cable Schedule
- Bill of Material (BOM)
- Technical specifications
- Design calculation reports
9. Coordination with Other Teams
Work closely with:
- Civil engineering team for foundation and building layouts
- Procurement team for equipment technical evaluation
- Protection and control team
- Construction and commissioning teams
10. Vendor Drawing Review
- Review and approve vendor drawings and technical documents.
- Ensure equipment compliance with project specifications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.E / B.Tech).
- Master's degree is an added advantage.
Experience Required
- 310 years of experience in substation design up to 132 kV.
- Experience in AIS substations is mandatory.
- GIS experience is an added advantage.
