About the Role

The SME – Social Studies (Grades 3–12) will develop engaging, standards-aligned instructional materials for U.S. learners. The role requires strong subject expertise and knowledge of civics, geography, history, and economics appropriate for grades 3-12.

Responsibilities

Subject Matter Expertise

  • Design curriculum-aligned content on Communities and Geography, Early U.S. History, Basic Civics and Government, Cultural Diversity and Traditions, and Introductory Economic Concepts, focusing on map skills, civic responsibility, and age-appropriate historical understanding. (Grades 3–5)
  • Create curriculum-aligned materials covering Ancient Civilizations, World History foundations, U.S History (colonial through Reconstruction), Civics and Government principles, Geography, and Economic systems, highlighting source analysis, historical reasoning, and inquiry-based learning. (Grades 6–8)
  • Develop curriculum-aligned content in U.S. History (founding to modern era), World History, Government and Civics, Economics, and Global Studies with Geography, with emphasis on source analysis, argument development, and civic literacy. (Grades 9–12)

Instructional Development

  • Create lesson plans aligned to grade-level standards
  • Develop assessments and inquiry tasks
  • Recommend maps, visuals, and interactive elements

Collaboration

  • Work with Instructional Designers and curriculum teams
  • Revise content based on structured feedback
  • Participate in virtual collaboration sessions

AI-Enabled Workflow

  • Use AI tools to support drafting, review, assessment, and media creation
  • Validate outputs for scientific accuracy and standards alignment

Required Skills

Strong subject expertise and knowledge of civics, geography, history, and economics appropriate for grades 3-12.

Preferred Skills

Experience in curriculum development and instructional design.
