Role Overview
The Associate Backup and Storage Administrator is responsible for ensuring the integrity, protection, and availability of enterprise data by supporting and maintaining company's enterprise backup and storage infrastructure.
The role involves monitoring daily backups, managing storage systems, supporting data recovery operations, and coordinating with internal IT teams and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of enterprise backup and storage systems
- Maintain backup servers, tape libraries, disk repositories, and storage arrays
- Monitor backup jobs and resolve failures
- Perform data recovery and restoration when required
- Support enterprise backup and storage platforms
- Coordinate support activities with internal IT teams
- Escalate major incidents to senior technical staff
- Work with vendors for hardware and software support
- Implement backup and storage software patches and upgrades
- Manage SAN and NAS connectivity
- Provision LUNs and storage capacity
- Configure host presentation, snapshots, cloning, and replication
- Maintain documentation, SOPs, and inventory records
- Conduct capacity planning and performance monitoring
- Assist in disaster recovery and data protection operations
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors
Required Qualifications & Experience
Experience
- 35 years hands-on experience in backup and storage administration
- Experience in large-scale enterprise or data center environments
- Exposure to Windows, Linux/UNIX, virtualized, and cloud platforms
Backup Technologies
Experience with one or more:
- Veritas NetBackup
- Azure Native Backup
- Windows Backup tools
- Linux/UNIX backup tools
- Database and application backups
- Disk-based, cloud-based, and SaaS backup solutions
- LAN-free backup environments
Storage & Infrastructure
- SAN and NAS technologies
- Storage array administration
- LUN provisioning and capacity allocation
- Snapshots, cloning, and replication
- Tape library management
- Experience with Dell EMC, HP, IBM, or Quantum storage hardware
Systems & Platforms
- Microsoft Windows Server 2016/2019
- VMware environments
- Linux/UNIX systems
- Cloud backup environments
Automation & Monitoring
Knowledge of:
- Python scripting
- Ansible
- Monitoring tools (e.g., DataDog)
