Job Description

At TE, you will unleash your potential working with people from diverse backgrounds and industries to create a safer, sustainable and more connected world.

Job Overview

  • Lead the design and development of Machine Vision and Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems for high-density miniature connectors used in AI data centers.
  • Own vision systems architecture, covering optics, illumination engineering, cameras, and inspection algorithms.
  • Deliver high-speed inline inspection & measurement, optical measurement, and optical metrology solutions with micron-level accuracy.
  • Drive scalable, modular, and state-of-the-art vision platforms from concept to production.
  • Act as the system-level decision-maker for all vision and optical technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Vision System Architecture & AOI Design

  • Architect end-to-end Vision Systems for Automated Optical Inspection (AOI).
  • Architect and implement real-time, automated vision-based quality inspection systems to detect defects early and prevent large-scale production issues.
  • Define 2D and 3D inspection & measurement strategies using:
  • 2D cameras, line scan cameras
  • 3D cameras, structured light 3D cameras
  • Apply Scheimpflug principle where required for tilted or uneven connector surfaces.
  • Support inspection system architect responsibilities within the vision domain.

Optical System Design & Illumination Engineering

  • Design and select optical systems considering working distance, depth of field, and field of view.
  • Engineer illumination for reflective and fine-pitch connectors:
  • Brightfield, darkfield, coaxial, dome, polarized lighting
  • Optimize image quality using CMOS image sensors and industrial cameras.

Vision Inspection & Image Processing

  • Develop and tune vision inspection and inspection algorithms for:
  • Pin presence, coplanarity, pitch, deformation
  • Surface defects, plating issues, contamination
  • Implement image processing pipelines for high-speed inline inspection.
  • Balance detection sensitivity with false-call reduction.

3D Measurement & Optical Metrology

  • Implement 3D measurement, 3D inspection, and optical measurement techniques.
  • Ensure metrology accuracy, repeatability, and traceability.
  • Collaborate with motion systems to enable 3D metrology systems.

System Integration & Production Deployment

  • Synchronize vision systems with precision motion and machine control.
  • Ensure data quality, traceability, and analytics readiness.
  • Support NPI, factory acceptance testing, and customer qualification.

Mandatory

  • MS or PhD in Computer Vision, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related technical field or equivalent hands-on experience building and deploying inspection systems in real-world robotics applications.
  • 8 to 10 years experience in Machine Vision, Vision Inspection, or AOI systems.
  • Strong expertise in optical system design and illumination engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial cameras and image processing.
  • Proven delivery of AOI systems in high-volume manufacturing.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with optical metrology or 3D inspection systems.
  • Background as an AOI Architect, Vision System Architect, or Inspection System Architect.
  • Experience with high-speed connector, electronics, or semiconductor inspection.
