The Staff Software Engineer will lead the development of serverless computing platforms within Walmart Global Tech's Global Tech Platforms Organization, architecting scalable, cloud-native solutions using Kubernetes and VM Orchestrators. Responsibilities include integrating serverless technologies like Google Cloud Run, Knative, or AWS Lambda to enable efficient, event-driven applications. The Orchestration Foundation platform team at Walmart Global Tech. has a mission to
provide Walmart developers a world class platform capability to deliver reliable applications
faster.
We help thousands of developers save time and code better, so that millions of Walmart
associates can help hundreds of millions of customers to save money and live better.
We enable application teams deploy workloads symmetrically that brings consistent
outcome and predictable behavior of applications across public, private, and edge

What You'll Do
- Architect and implement serverless computing frameworks using Kubernetes and
VM orchestrators to enable auto-scaling, event-driven architectures, and multi-
tenant isolation.
- Lead the integration of serverless runtimes like Google Cloud Run, Knative, or AWS
Lambda into Walmart's Global Tech Platforms, optimizing for performance, security,
and observability.
- Design and build APIs, microservices, and orchestration layers that support hybrid
cloud deployments, leveraging strong software development practices for
maintainable, high-quality code.
- Collaborate with product managers, Walmart Architects/Fellows, and Principal
Engineers to prototype and iterate on serverless solutions for real-world use cases,
such as running AI Agents on Serverless platform, implement Scale to zero, etc...
- Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and drive technical best practices,
including CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and GitOps/infrastructure-as-code.
- Investigate and resolve complex production issues, performing root-cause analysis
to enhance system reliability and resilience.
- Stay ahead of industry trends in serverless and cloud-native technologies,
contributing to internal knowledge-sharing and innovation roadmaps
What You'll Bring
Education & Experience: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software
Engineering, or a related field. 8+ years of professional software engineering experience,
with at least 4 years in cloud-native development and platform engineering.
Core Technical Skills:
- Strong software development skills in languages like Java, Go, Python, or Node.js,
with expertise in building distributed systems and event-driven applications.
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes for container orchestration and VM Orchestrators
(e.g., OpenStack, VMware) for hybrid workload management.
- Hands-on knowledge of serverless platforms, specifically Google Cloud Run,
Knative, or AWS Lambda, including deployment, monitoring, and optimization in
production environments.
Other Requirements:
- Proven track record of leading large-scale platform projects with measurable impact
on scalability and developer productivity.
- Familiarity with cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Azure) and tools like Istio, Prometheus,
and Terraform for service mesh and infrastructure management.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on security, compliance (e.g., SOC
2, PCI), and cost-eUiciency in enterprise settings.
- Strong communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical
stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Agentic AI frameworks (e.g., LangChain, AutoGPT) and integrating AI
agents into serverless workflows for autonomous decision-making.
