We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Backend) to provide technical leadership and architectural direction for the backend systems powering our Data FinOps platform. This role is ideal for a senior technologist who thrives on solving complex, dataintensive problems at scale and influencing engineering direction beyond a single team.

As a Staff Engineer, you will own critical backend architecture, partner closely with product and platform teams, and raise the technical bar across the organization through design leadership, mentorship, and pragmatic decisionmaking.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the architecture, design, and evolution of highly scalable, cloudnative backend systems and APIs.
Drive technical strategy for reliability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency across dataintensive workloads.
Own complex backend initiatives endtoend, from design through production rollout and operational maturity.
Collaborate closely with data engineering, frontend, platform, and SRE teams to ensure cohesive system design and execution.
Influence engineering standards and best practices around code quality, testing, CI/CD, observability, and operational excellence.
Review and guide designs and implementations across teams, acting as a trusted technical advisor.
Mentor senior and junior engineers, helping grow technical depth and leadership within the organization.
Stay ahead of industry trends in backend systems, cloud platforms, and data engineering, applying them thoughtfully at scale.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of backend engineering experience, with a proven track record of building and scaling complex production systems.
Deep expertise in Python (experience with Java, Go, or Node.js is a strong plus).
Strong experience designing distributed systems and RESTful APIs using frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI.
Handson experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and cloudnative architectures.
Solid understanding of relational databases and data platforms/warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks).
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in largescale or production environments.
Strong fundamentals in system design, data structures, algorithms, and tradeoff analysis.
Experience driving or influencing CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and operational practices.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence technical direction across teams.

Preferred Skills

Experience building largescale data or analytics platforms.
Strong background in observability, monitoring, and incidentdriven learning.
Experience with security, compliance, and enterprisegrade SaaS requirements.
Prior experience in FinOps, cloud cost optimization, or enterprise SaaS platforms.
Experience building AIpowered backend systems, including LLMbased or agentdriven workflows.
Familiarity with integrating LLMs with APIs, data platforms, and services in production.
Exposure to agent frameworks or orchestration patterns (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar).
