Staff Software Development Engineer (Backend)

Job Summary:

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will demonstrate strong independence and technical proficiency while collaborating effectively within the team. You will uphold a standard of excellence, ensuring high-quality work and timely delivery of projects. Additionally, you will serve as the functional lead within your domain, providing guidance and expertise to team members.

About the team:

JioHotstar's world-record-breaking OTT platform is available in India, the international market. We are home to India's largest entertainment content catalog for the Indian diaspora in the UK. We are hiring senior engineers for our UK and international teams to develop systems that drive business growth in the country. This is a unique opportunity to work across the JioHotstar tech stack and work on the most impactful projects. You will contribute to the common stack, build frameworks to offer geography-specific differentiated features and create subscriber and business growth platform for the company.

Key responsibilities:

• Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant backend systems for subscription lifecycle management, payment processing, and renewal workflows
• Lead development of core platform components such as the subscription state machine, payment orchestration layer, retry engine, and entitlement services.
• Ensure high performance and low latency of APIs handling real-time subscription and payment flowsscaling to millions of users across geographies.
• Build systems with strong observability and monitoring, ensuring system health, uptime, and fast incident response.
• Continuously evaluate and adopt relevant technologies
• Influence and lead architecture and design discussions within the team

Skills and attributes for success:

• Proficiency in any of the programming languages- Java, Golang, Python
• Experience in building RESTful APIs with monitoring, fault tolerance, and metrics (using tools like Hystrix)
• Experience with databases such as MySQL, and NoSQL databases like Cassandra, Redis, and DynamoDB
• Experience in server-side services using ElasticSearch
• Experience with the AWS stack

Preferred education and experience:

• Bachelors/master's in computer science or a related field with 6-8 years of professional experience
