Who we are looking for

We are seeking a highly skilled SREAutomation Engineer to join the State Street Middleware Application Infrastructure Team. Our team manages and supports a wide range of Web and Application server technologies including WebSphere, JBoss, IIS, and other middleware platforms across the Bank, such as MQ, Kafka, Autosys, and file transfer platforms.

The ideal candidate will excel in fastpaced 2week Agile (Scrum/Kanban) cycles, bringing strong scripting capabilities, CI/CD experience, and a collaborative mindset to deliver highquality automation within tight timelines.

This role will focus on designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions for BAU operations, selfservice enablement, workflow orchestration, and AIdriven operational efficiencies. A strong technical foundation, problemsolving orientation, and passion for continuous service improvement are essential for success.

What you will be responsible for

As a Middleware Automation Engineer, you will have:

  • Programming Proficiency: Strong experience in languages like Java, Python, JavaScript, or C#
  • API & Backend Testing: Hands-on experience with API automation (RESTful APIs) to test backend systems, which is crucial for faster, more stable tests compared to UI-only testing.
  • CI/CD Integration: Knowledge of continuous integration/deployment tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps to run automated tests on every code commit.
  • Agile Ceremonies: Active participation in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Tooling (Ticketing): Skilled in Jira, ServiceNow, and Confluence for managing defects and user stories.
  • Design and develop endtoend BAU tasks automations, including:
    • Self-service workflows
    • Infrastructure provisioning
    • Configuration automation
    • Remediation playbooks using AI/ML where applicable

Automation & Scripting

  • Hands-on proficiency with:
    • UNIX Shell scripting
    • Python programming
    • Ansible Core / Ansible Tower
    • ServiceNow workflows and automation
    • Familiarity with modern AI/Automation platforms is a strong plus

Security & Protocols

  • Solid understanding of SSL/TLS, SSH, encryption standards, certificates, and key lifecycle management
  • Solid understanding on Azure AD, ForgeRock, MFA, SSO integration

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple highpriority tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across diverse teams.
  • A mindset focused on innovation, automation, and continuous service improvement.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ year of IT experience in Middleware and Automation
  • Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent

Additionally

  • Experience with cloud-native platforms
  • Exposure to observability tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, or similar
  • ITIL certification or operational process experience
  • Experience with AI-based operational automation (AIOps) is highly advantageous
