The Process Engineer will develop process design basis and philosophies, perform simulations, and ensure process integrity for oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, and utility projects. The role involves coordinating with engineering teams, evaluating vendor packages, performing calculations, and supporting FEED and detailed engineering stages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop process design basis and design philosophies based on project scope.
- Review and perform process simulations; guide junior engineers to develop heat and mass balances.
- Develop PFDs, PSFDs, P&IDs, CEDs, and Safety charts.
- Perform routine process calculations (hydraulics, sizing) using process software (HYSYS, Flarenet) and in-house spreadsheets.
- Design and review process control configurations, ESD systems, and equipment such as separators, pumps, compressors, and gas treatment units.
- Support engineering and design of facilities with fired heaters, heat exchangers, and columns.
- Design and analyze utility systems: steam, instrument air, plant air, nitrogen, fuel gas/oil, and water systems (cooling, chilled, potable, DM, wastewater).
- Develop steam balance and compressor hydraulics; perform relief valve and flare load calculations.
- Develop utility balance, UFD, and summaries for process plants.
- Maintain knowledge of offsites, including tank farms, boilers, and power generation.
- Follow engineering best practices, calculation methods, international standards, codes, specifications, and procedures.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate project execution; manage interfaces with other engineering departments.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to performance guarantees, vendor scopes, and technical bid evaluation.
- Evaluate vendor/consultant/licensor offers for process packages, equipment, and specialized studies.
- Support routine safety studies like HAZOP, HAZID, and SIL; knowledge of pre-commissioning, commissioning, and operations is an advantage.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
- 1015 years of experience in process engineering.
- Proficiency in process engineering software (HYSYS, Flarenet).
- Experience in FEED and detailed engineering stages.
- Knowledge of oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, offshore, and utilities/offsites projects.
- Willingness to travel across KBR offices.
