Role Summary
The Senior Scrum Master is responsible for driving the effective adoption and execution of Agile best practices and Scrum methodology. This role ensures that Scrum principles are understood and properly applied across the team and organization.
A key responsibility is removing impediments that impact the Scrum Team's progress by guiding stakeholders on productive and value-driven interactions. The Senior Scrum Master fosters an environment of continuous improvement, champions agility, and helps optimize collaboration to maximize business value delivery.
In addition to Scrum, this role may leverage other Agile frameworks and practices such as Lean and Kanban to enhance team performance and organizational effectiveness.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5 years of experience specifically as a Scrum Master
- 5+ years of experience working within Technology on a functional team using Agile methodologies
Additional Preferred Skills:
Deep knowledge of Agile and Scrum practices
Proven leadership experience (direct or indirect)
Expertise Required:
Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum principles
Direct or indirect leadership experience.
Scrum Master Certification (CSM or PSM I)
Roles & ResponsibilitiesService to the Development Team
- Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives to ensure smooth and effective execution.
- Proactively identify and remove impediments to enable continuous, iterative delivery of business value.
- Protect the team from external distractions and scope disruptions to maintain focus and sprint commitments.
- Foster a culture of empowerment and self-organization, encouraging accountability and ownership within the team.
- Promote strong cross-functional collaboration, enabling effective problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
- Leverage Visual Management tools, dashboards, and Agile metrics to provide transparency into team performance, priorities, roadmap, and overall progress.
- Drive continuous improvement by facilitating retrospectives and encouraging actionable insights for enhanced delivery efficiency.
Service to the Product Owner
- Partner closely with the Product Owner to ensure effective backlog prioritization and refinement, maximizing business value delivery.
- Enable the Product Owner to leverage empirical data and iterative delivery practices for informed decision-making.
- Ensure the team has a clear understanding of the business case, scope, milestones, sprint goals, and overall product vision.
- Support alignment between stakeholder expectations and development execution.
- Facilitate completion of work through collaboration and influence rather than assignment or directive authority.
- Promote agility across stakeholders by reinforcing Scrum principles and value-driven delivery practices.
