SR. CLOUD AND DB SUPPORT ENGINEER

ROLE

Hands-on role to operate and improve our Azure environment and Microsoft SQL Server

databases, with clear ownership for reliability, security, and cost (FinOps). Requires solid

enterprise architecture fundamentals (networking, identity, governance) and strong production

DBA skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Azure operations: Manage VNets/NSGs/Private Endpoints, Azure AD/RBAC, Key Vault,

Monitor/Log Analytics, backup/DR runbooks.

• Compute/services: Provision and maintain VMs/App Service; patching, uptime, scaling,

incident response.

• SQL Server administration: Install/configure, backups/restore, HA/DR (Always On),

CHECKDB, index/statistics maintenance.

• Performance tuning: T-SQL, execution plans, indexing strategies, query optimization.

• Migrations: Plan/execute on-prem → Azure SQL (Database/Managed Instance);

rehearse cutovers; validate and reconcile.

1• Security & governance: Encryption in transit/at rest, auditing, access controls; align with

enterprise standards.

• Automation & documentation: PowerShell scripting; basic IaC (Bicep/Terraform/ARM);

SOPs/runbooks, post-mortems.

• FinOps (cost optimization & tracking): Own Azure and SQL cost visibility (budgets/alerts,

tagging), right-size resources, optimize SQL licensing and elasticity (reserved capacity,

serverless/elastic pools), track monthly spend, and drive savings with actionable reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years in Azure operations and MS SQL Server DBA in production.

• Strong enterprise architecture fundamentals (network, identity, security, governance).

• Deep hands-on with SQL Server: HA/DR (Always On), backup/restore, maintenance best

practices.

• Proven T-SQL proficiency and performance tuning experience.

• Azure fundamentals: VNets, NSGs, Private Endpoints, Key Vault, Monitor/Log Analytics.

• PowerShell scripting and an automation mindset.

• FinOps basics: Azure Cost Management, tagging/chargeback, budgets/alerts,

right-sizing and optimization for compute/storage and SQL workloads.

• Clear documentation and stakeholder communication; ability to work cross-functionally.

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Azure SQL Managed Instance/Azure SQL Database operations.

• Azure DevOps pipelines for DB changes (DACPAC/SSDT) and release governance.

• AKS/App Service experience.

• Azure Policy/Blueprints and governance guardrails.

• Azure Data Factory (ADF) for ETL/ELT and data movement.

POSITION

Initial 6-month contract, with option to renew thereafter.
