Position Overview

As an IT Engineer SQL DBA, you will be responsible for the administration, optimization, and security of Arval's enterprise database systems, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, and MongoDB. Your role will involve ensuring high availability, data integrity, and performance while collaborating with global teams to support business-critical applications.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to Arval's digital transformation by implementing best practices in database management, automation, and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Operations

  • Ensure the availability, security, and performance of mission-critical databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, MongoDB).
  • Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery (DRP/BCP) strategies to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Automate routine database tasks (backups, patches, monitoring) to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Enforce access controls, encryption, and compliance with BNP Paribas security policies.

Incident & Problem Management

  • Lead the resolution of database-related incidents, ensuring rapid recovery and minimal business impact.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis (RCA) and post-mortems for major incidents to drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, Infrastructure, and Application teams to troubleshoot and resolve cross-functional issues.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate and recommend emerging database technologies (e.g., NoSQL, cloud-native databases) to support scalability.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for database architectures, procedures, and best practices.
  • Participate in disaster recovery drills, security audits, and compliance reviews to strengthen IT resilience.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Technical Expertise

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL DBA with proficiency in:
  • Database Systems: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, MongoDB.
  • High Availability & Resilience: DRP, BCP, clustering, replication.
  • Performance Tuning: Query optimization, indexing, monitoring (Dynatrace, Prometheus, etc.).
  • Automation & Scripting: Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
  • Experience with cloud databases (Oracle ExaCC, AWS RDS, Azure SQL) is advantageous.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
