Role Overview

As an IT Engineer SQL DBA you will own the administration, optimisation, and security of Arval's enterprise databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, and MongoDB). You will guarantee high availability, data integrity, and performance while partnering with global DevOps, infrastructure, and application teams to keep missioncritical workloads running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Operations

  • Maintain 99.9 %+ availability, security, and performance of MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, and MongoDB environments.
  • Design, implement, and regularly test backup, restore, and disasterrecovery (DRP/BCP) procedures.
  • Conduct capacityplanning and performancetuning activities (indexing, query optimisation, statistics updates).
  • Automate routine tasksbackups, patching, healthchecks, and alertingusing scripting or orchestration tools.
  • Enforce rolebased access control, encryption, and compliance with BNP Paribas security policies.

Incident & Problem Management

  • Lead timely resolution of databaserelated incidents; coordinate with relevant teams to minimise business impact.
  • Perform rootcause analysis (RCA) and produce postmortem reports for major incidents, driving continual improvement.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, infrastructure, and application owners to troubleshoot crossfunctional issues.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate emerging database technologies (NoSQL, cloudnative, distributed SQL) and recommend adoption where they add value.
  • Create and maintain uptodate documentation: architecture diagrams, runbooks, SOPs, and bestpractice guides.
  • Participate in disasterrecovery drills, security audits, and compliance reviews; contribute to strengthening overall IT resilience.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Technical Expertise

  • Minimum 5 years of handson experience as a SQL DBA.
  • Strong proficiency with MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and MongoDB.
  • Experience with highavailability and resilience techniques: clustering, replication, DRP/BCP.
  • Demonstrated ability to tune performancequery optimisation, indexing, and monitoring (e.g., Dynatrace, Prometheus).
  • Automation/scripting skills in Bash, Python, PowerShell, or equivalent.

Cloud Knowledge

  • Experience with cloudhosted databases such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or Oracle ExaCC is a plus.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to containerised database deployments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with InfrastructureasCode tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Database Specialty, Oracle Certified Professional).
