Job Title: Special Educator

Organization: Saksham Trust

Reporting To: Program Coordinator / Project Manager

Employment Type: Full-time / Contractual

Position Overview

Saksham Trust is seeking a committed and skilled Special Educator for its Delhi centre. The role involves providing individualized educational support to children with visual impairments and, where applicable, multiple disabilities. The Special Educator will play a key role in implementing inclusive education practices, integrating assistive technology into learning, and supporting families and mainstream educators.

With centres across multiple states, Saksham focuses on inclusive education, assistive technology, accessibility, and community-based rehabilitation for children and adults with visual disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized and small-group instruction to children with visual impairments and additional disabilities, as required.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) based on assessments and learning goals.
  • Use and demonstrate assistive and educational tools, including Braille slates, tactile learning materials, screen readers, audio books, and other accessible resources.
  • Integrate assistive technology into classroom teaching and daily learning activities.
  • Maintain accurate student records, attendance, progress reports, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with therapists, AT trainers, and program staff to ensure holistic child development.
  • Conduct parent orientation and counselling sessions to support learning at home.
  • Support teacher training, sensitization, and inclusive education workshops in mainstream schools, as required.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining accessible learning resources at the centre.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education (RCI-certified is mandatory).
  • Minimum 12 years of experience working with children with visual impairments (preferred).
  • Strong working knowledge of Braille, tactile learning methods, and inclusive education strategies.
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies used by persons with visual impairment.
  • Good communication and documentation skills in English and Hindi.
  • Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to disability inclusion and child-centred education.
