The Opportunity

TheEnterprise and Platform Engineeringteams support our largest customers by delivering scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure for engineering teams working on advanced CAD and Product Data Management (PDM) workflows.

As aPrincipal Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing and developing high-performance Java solutions for the Onshape SaaS platform. You'll work in a cloud-native environment, contributing to a large and evolving codebase, and ensuring the platform's scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

In this role, you will:

• Design and implement robust, efficient, and scalable Java code for a modern SaaS platform.
• Troubleshoot and optimize performance across distributed cloud-native systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality product increments every three weeks.
• Mentor junior engineers and interns, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
• Influence architectural decisions, conduct code reviews, and promote engineering best practices.

Your Team

You'll be part of theOnshape Enterprise and Platform team, which focuses on enabling large organisations to adopt and scale with Onshape. The team builds enterprise-grade features such as Single Sign-On (SSO), Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Billing, Sharing, andData Analyticscritical for organizations with complex security and collaboration needs. You'll work in a mature, agile, and data-driven engineering culture that valuesinnovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.

What You Need to Succeed

• 8+ yearsof experience building distributed, data-intensive systems using Javaand NoSQL databases likeMongoDB.
• Deep expertise inJava and its ecosystem, with strong foundations in computer science fundamentals, including algorithms and data structures.
• Proven experience developingmulti-tenant backend systems,RESTful APIs, and services usingJava, Spring Framework, andMongoDB.
• Strong skills introubleshooting, debugging, andperformance tuningin cloud-native environments.
• Experience building solutions forenterprise customers, addressing complex needs aroundsecurity, delegation, andcollaboration.
• Demonstrated ability tomentor and support junior engineersthrough code reviews, coaching, and technical training.
• Ability tolead the design and implementationof complex software systems, ensuring high-quality code and adherence to best practices.
• Bachelor's degree inComputer Scienceor equivalent experience, with a solid grasp ofdata structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
