About Team:
The Acquisition and Discovery Engineering team at Walmart provides a seamless and delightful shopping experience to millions of shoppers worldwide. As a software engineer in this team, you will have the opportunity to work on top of the funnel shopping experience Homepage, Content Pages for SEO and SEM, Search & Browse experiences, Deals and Item pages across mobile and web platforms.
This collaborative team made up of Engineering, UX, Product Management, Business and Analytics is rapidly iterating on new products and site features at scale. We deliver high performing solutions on our next generation front-end platform. Virtual Try-On, Gen AI integration, personalized complete-the-look, Video shopping, etc are just a few examples of the features developed by this team in collaboration with many other teams. Continuous experimentation, innovation and feedback by millions of customers makes this work even more exciting!
What You Will Do:
Develop and deliver feature sets involving responsive, high-performance web UIs integrated with RESTful services, ensuring a seamless user experience.
Build scalable front-end applications using React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, following modern development practices.
Collaborate with UX designers, product owners, and business stakeholders to analyze requirements and deliver sustainable, scalable technical solutions aligned with business goals.
Contribute to software design and architecture by applying engineering and design patterns; work closely with peers, senior engineers, and architects.
Drive the development and enhancement of product components, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, design, and development standards.
Build reusable, modular React components using TypeScript and CSS modules.
Write comprehensive unit and integration tests using tools like Jest to ensure code quality and reliability.
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks using tools such as Chrome DevTools, Lighthouse, and WebPageTest.
Develop interactive, data-driven UI components, including graphs and charts, handling complex and large-scale data structures.
Extend and improve open-source tools and frameworks where applicable.
Follow industry best practices and adopt new tools, technologies, and methodologies to improve agility and development efficiency.
Stay current with evolving web technologies, frameworks, and best practices, and share knowledge across teams.
Drive operational excellence by ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of production systems using AI-driven monitoring, alerting, and incident management.
Champion engineering excellence through best practices such as code reviews, design reviews, and CI/CD, leveraging AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity and code quality.
Implement AI-powered solutions for proactive issue detection, automated root cause analysis, and self-healing systems to reduce downtime and improve resilience.
Define and track engineering and operational metrics, using AI/analytics to enable continuous improvement and data-driven decisions.
Foster a culture of innovation by adopting modern AI technologies, encouraging experimentation, and continuously improving development and operational workflows.
What You Will Bring:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
26 years of experience in frontend/web development, preferably in consumer-facing or e-commerce platforms.
Strong hands-on experience building scalable, high-performance, responsive web applications.
Deep expertise in ReactJS, Redux, TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, CSS, and modern frontend development practices.
Strong understanding of React fundamentals including Virtual DOM, component lifecycle, hooks, and state management.
Experience building reusable, customizable, and dynamic UI components using modern frontend frameworks and patterns.
Proficiency in implementing design patterns and best practices, including asynchronous programming (Promises, observables), event handling, and application flow control.
Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL services using Node.js, Rust, or Go is a plus.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and frontend testing strategies.
Strong understanding of browser internals, rendering, and performance optimization techniques.
Experience with development tools such as Git, NPM, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenObserve or Splunk.
Solid understanding of SDLC best practices, including code reviews, version control, testing, and deployment processes.
Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices-based architectures.
Exposure to cloud platforms and deploying web applications in cloud environments.
Experience working with large-scale distributed systems and fully automated CI/CD environments is a plus.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Effective communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts and collaborate across teams.
Proven troubleshooting skills, including root cause analysis and resolution of production issues, with a focus on long-term fixes and system stability.
