As a Software Engineer in India, you will join a diverse and passionate engineering team responsible for delivering highly reliable card and merchant payment solutions that serve financial institutions across the globe.

About the Role

Join ACI's Card & Merchant Management (CMM) engineering team and help build, enhance and support mission-critical payment solutions used by leading financial institutions worldwide. This role combines deep Mainframe and COBOL expertise with modern software engineering practices to deliver scalable, secure and highly reliable card payment processing solutions.

You will work on complex payment systems that process high volumes of transactions while contributing to product innovation, quality, operational excellence and AI-driven engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain high-quality software solutions.
• Develop and support COBOL, JCL, DB2 and VSAM-based applications on IBM Mainframe platforms.
• Participate in architecture reviews, design discussions and code reviews to ensure engineering excellence.
• Develop and execute automated unit, integration and regression tests.
• Investigate, diagnose and resolve customer-reported issues and production incidents.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Professional Services, Support and other engineering teams.
• Contribute to technical documentation, solution designs and product specifications.
• Support Agile delivery processes and actively participate in sprint planning, estimation and retrospectives.
• Drive continuous improvement in performance, resiliency, maintainability and operational excellence.
• Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools to improve development efficiency, quality and productivity.#
  

Required Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of software development experience.
• Strong expertise in COBOL, JCL and DB2 development.
• Good experience using Linux or Unix platforms.
• Unix shell scripting.
• Willingness to learn, both old and new technologies, to solve problems and take the product in new directions
• Experience using AI-powered development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude or similar) to improve engineering productivity, code quality, testing and problem-solving.
• Hands-on IBM Mainframe development experience.
• Experience with Git or similar source control systems.
• Strong debugging, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working in Agile software development environments.
• Familiarity with AI tools and their application within software development workflows.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of card issuing, acquiring and/or interchange processing.
• Java development experience.
• VSAM knowledge and experience.
• Ability to effectively apply AI solutions to software development, testing, automation and operational workflows.
• Experience working with high-volume, mission-critical transaction processing systems.
• Experience supporting performance engineering, resiliency and operational excellence initiatives.
• Familiarity with cloud-hosted payment platforms and modernisation of legacy systems.
• Experience working within regulated financial services environments.
