Are you passionate about building high-scale, high-reliability payment systems that delight millions of customers We are looking for a technically strong Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead the Falcon team, defining the 3-year architectural vision and roadmap for FOS and PCB while driving engineering excellence across a globally distributed team.
You will define the long-term architecture, scalability, and reliability strategy for FOS — a Tier-1 service — while driving technical alignment across multiple Tier-1 payment platforms including Checkout, PurchaseX, DEX, PayStation, PCES, DPX, and Installments. Your scope includes shaping cross-org payment architecture, ensuring seamless integration of financial offers into global checkout experiences, and enabling the next generation of payment and incentive capabilities across Amazon.
Key job responsibilities
Own the 3-year technical roadmap and architecture for FOS and PCB, balancing innovation with operational excellence for systems touching 20%+ of Amazon transactions
Lead a team of engineers in Bengaluru, fostering a culture of ownership, technical rigor, and customer obsession
Drive cross-org technical alignment across Tier-1 payment platforms: Checkout, PurchaseX, DEX, PayStation, PCES, DPX, and Installments
Identify and resolve architectural bottlenecks that limit innovation for partner teams across APP
Instill engineering best practices: code quality, design reviews, operational excellence, and on-call rigor for Tier-1 services
Partner with Product Managers (PMTs) and Technical Program Managers (TPMs) to develop strategy and roadmap for compelling customer-facing payment capabilities
Own the full development lifecycle: prioritization, planning, stakeholder management, and tracking of external commitments
Hire, develop, and retain world-class engineers; actively mentor SDEs and grow future technical leaders
About The Team
Amazon Payment Products (APP) Tech builds foundational systems and payment products trusted by customers worldwide. The Falcon team owns two critical programs:
Financial Offer Service (FOS): A Tier-1 service powering financial offer experiences across checkout and pre-checkout flows for 20+ payment products (Credit Cards, Installments, Currency Converter) spanning 20 marketplaces, touching over 20% of all Amazon transactions.
Prime Card Bonus (PCB): A fully vendor-funded, Prime-exclusive program offering 10–20% additional cash back on Amazon.com for US Prime credit card members, beyond the base 5% reward.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
