About The Role
Join our Video Engineering team at JioHotstar as a Senior Staff Engineer, where you will be instrumental in building and scaling our next-generation media infrastructure. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex technical challenges such as video codec optimization, AI-driven quality assessment, and high-performance streaming systems designed to support millions of concurrent users worldwide. You will be responsible for defining the technical direction and architecture of our video processing platforms, collaborating with cross-functional teams including research, product management, and operations to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-quality streaming experiences. Your expertise will help shape the future of media delivery, ensuring our platform remains at the forefront of innovation and user satisfaction.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess 9+ years of experience in multimedia software development, demonstrating strong problem-solving and debugging skills. A BE/B.Tech degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required; an MS or PhD is a plus. Proficiency in C++ or Java, with solid object-oriented programming fundamentals, is essential. Candidates should have a deep understanding of audio and video compression and processing, including familiarity with standards such as H.264/AVC, HEVC, AV1, HDR standards like Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and audio codecs like AAC, HE-AAC, EAC-3, and Dolby Atmos (AC-4). Experience with immersive formats such as 360VR and 3D video, along with a strong background in image and signal processing, algorithm design, and implementation, are highly desirable. A proven track record of delivering complex projects on time and working effectively in a collaborative environment will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of video processing and ad insertion software integrated with JioHotstar's media pipelines, ensuring seamless delivery and monetization.
- Architect scalable solutions for quality, robustness, and efficiency, capable of handling massive volumes of video content with minimal latency.
- Innovate and prototype emerging media technologies such as AI-driven quality assessment, dynamic bitrate optimization, and immersive media formats.
- Design and implement advanced algorithms to enhance encoding efficiency, incorporating video intelligence capabilities to optimize resource utilization.
- Build automated video quality control systems for incoming source content and encoded streams, maintaining high standards for media quality.
- Drive the technical implementation of media features within live streaming workflows, emphasizing observability, resiliency, and fault tolerance.
- Champion the support and integration of state-of-the-art media features on our platform, ensuring an exceptional user experience across all devices.
- Collaborate closely with research and product teams to evaluate, adopt, and integrate next-generation video technologies to stay ahead of industry trends.
